Tonight Renee' and I went to see A Midsummer Night's Dream, done energetically by the university kids, set in modern day, with very little loss of the text.
It was SO much fun! The woods were a bar in New York with dance music and writhing bodies, very appropriate to the subject matter. Casting was great. Among the minor players I loved Thisbe, a very hirsute young man (really silly looking in his dress) who mumbled his lines as fast as he could, reading from a cheat sheet. Well, it was wonderful. Puck was to die for.
