production team known to man (Gainax for u unknowing fools). It tells the story of a boy called Simon [Shi-mo-nn] and his life’s journey from being trapped in his underground town to battling to save all life in the universe. YES save ALL life in the universe. The plot is certainly interesting despite the first 4 eps where its incredibly slow and uninteresting in comparison to later on in the show. The pace then picks up after ep 4 but its not till around ep 8 until u start shitting bricks.
Ok I don’t really want to spoil anything so your just going to have to bear with me but its all because of the characters. Kamina is the most interesting/awesome person in the whole series, his epic speeches make the Spartans from 300 look like 12 year old pansyies and makes you want to cry uncontrollable MANLY tears. Rival characters are limited to one very badass guy by the name of viral and you later come to sympathize with him. Now I cant reall go into much more on characters because tengen toppa boasts the largest cast I have ever seen in a 27 ep long anime series!!! This could be a flaw in the series but knowing gainax they will find a way to make money out of it.
Another thing to take into mind is that Tengen Toppa is a Meccha series and is designed for the “guys”. However don’t be fooled ladies as this series will grow on you, but like anything you just need time on it. Now another interesting fact is that although it’s a mecha series, it has revived the super robot genre. Super robots are big overpowered and just plain awesome, again don’t let this put you off because it will be a big mistake.
Ok now less on the animes story and more onto the drawings. Ok gainax are already pretty well known for there quality in animation, each frame of tengen toppa is hand drawn and so fluid it puts studio Gonzo to shame. A particular thing you will like is explosions, in Tengen Toppa there’s explosions left right and centre, and each one Is individual. (no joke). So if you want some high quality animation look no further. Now a big problem I found was that after I watched this I couldn’t watch anymore animes for over a year because TTGL was just superior in everyway but that’s just me…. Ok if you got this far in the review SHAME ON YOUUU, you should be watching Tengen Toppa right now.
