They’ve long since given up interrogating her, but they still stare. Let them. They can’t touch her. They’ve been taught better than to try. But the monitor’s eyes still follow, detached but hot, each time she crosses her legs.

It’s her bad luck that she’s shifting positions when something flares within her, arches her up. Small but present, cause for alarm because she didn’t know it was there. And then it’s… gone. She feels hollow, somehow, a little empty as she carefully crosses her legs and ends the free show.

She can’t say she’s surprised when little Erik comes for her two days later, wearing Sebastian’s helmet and radiating blood and triumph.

She can’t sleep. It smells of Sebastian here. The weight of his presence still saturates the walls. He’s still here, in Angel’s resentful stares, in the little tricks and traps that Raven keeps tripping because she’s never been taught any discipline, in the clench of Magneto’s jaw, the way he avoids her eyes.

It won’t be long before Magneto’s thin patience snaps entirely and he comes to erase Sebastian as thoroughly and primally as he can.

It is inevitable that they will meet the others. It’s a surprise, honestly, that it is three weeks, four, before Xavier laps at the edge of her consciousness. Magneto’s head snaps around as she shifts. He nods, jaw clenched so tightly the cords in his neck stand out. And then Xavier glides around the corner, deceptively small and fragile in his metal chair. “Hello, Erik,” he says, so soft, and beside her Magneto melts, unstrung, fights to harden back up again.

The relief is so total that it’s a struggle to hang on to her armored form. Magneto is hollow, as hollow as she, and nothing she has could fill him up.
