That is sweet. You got me trying to do Vectors now as well. I'm new to Photoshop and CS3 is.. well.. alot. I think i'm going to have to either find someone to show me how to use this, muddle my way through it or pick up a book. :) Seeing as my copy didn't come with a manual.
you could use any version of adobe photoshop for it as far as i know.
i used CD2, but my copy of elements 7 would work as well.
i thought there would be some trick to it, or some nifty way to get it done...theres not, you literally have to just draw it all. its a bitch.
illustrator CS2 (and i would assume CS3) has something called "live trace" which will make anything in to a vector for you, but they dont look at all like the ones ive been posting, and from what i can tell they are all one layer VS the 300+ layers the ones ive been making have...gives you a lot less room to work with...but i guess thats the nature of auto programs.
sort of...hum, they arent just layers so to speak...they are shapes. like in the once above, the base skin tone, is one large shape that covers all of the skin area, i even took it over the eyes and mouth, then from there you stack the new shapes on top. sort of like if you were making a construction paper cut out.
again, im not sure if im doing it the most economic way possible, so im reluctant to detail the method, i dont want to send you down the wrong route...but heres what i did.
open image, select pen tool, outline base shapes IE: hair, skin, clothes. add shadows and highlights with new shapes using the pen tool.
thats about all there is to the way i did it. i want you it takes FOREVER!
you can IM me if you ever need help with photoshop, i know more photography style stuff than graphic, but i know way more graphic than any other photographer i know, so i feel like im a pretty good source.

Oh I see kind of like in school when were kids and we'd cut out pieces of construction paper and it would look 3 dimensional.. right gotcha.
Cool. That does help, atleast it shows me that there's not some magic tool named Vectors that i'm missing.
I gotcha, but anything really good generally takes time right? :)
Thanks I appreciate the offer. :) The only downside is i'm not on AIM, i've used MSN I just don't go on often. They wouldn't give you the other L!! OMG!!
