I AM NOT GOING THAT WAY. NO.

So: THE SQWHALE.

HERE HE IS AGAIN FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT.

So. It was like 3 AM.

OKAY, WAIT. No. This story has to start earlier. Like WAY earlier.

So
justira and I are co-writing this story, which we've affectionately titled HONK, short for "THE FANDOM HELL BUS HAS ARRIVED, HONK" which can be properly attributed to, I believe,
renay? Basically Ira and Nay are huge enablers for my filthy mind and I am a huge enabler for THEIR filthy minds and we'll all be sharing a suite in Fandom Hell Hotel, writing 3 Google Docs worth* of words about a guy fuckin' his dad (THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION).

*(DID YOU KNOW Google Docs had a size limit? BECAUSE WE DIDN'T, although now we are as INTIMATELY FAMILIAR WITH IT as Squall is with his Dad. 3GDocs means 3 FULL GDocs, and we are STILL WRITING.

JUST THROWING THAT OUT THERE.)

So we're writin' Squall/Laguna. Good ol' incest. But this isn't just your average incest PWP with some shame thrown in and cock icing on top. Nope. This is basically the theme of our 3-document, eventually-will-be-over-200,000 words story:

So. We're pretty mean to Squall. A direct quote, from both of us, uttered multiple times: "I'm really glad this story has a happy ending because I wouldn't be able to HANDLE it otherwise." It is! Mean. Lots of things happen! They are fun for us! But not so much fun for Squall.

IN FAIRNESS, Squall is pretty mean to us.

Because! Squall is really hard to write.

The conclusion we came to is that Squall is almost a lot of things, and it's really easy to fall over one of those edges and make him too -- uh, well, too thing. He has a very dark and sarcastic sense of humor, but if you fall over that edge he gets too snarky. He's introspective and cynical and closemouthed, but it's very easy to just make that too emo. He's quiet and stubborn, terse and closemouthed, but he isn't shy and he's not a pushover: he's a leader, but he isn't bossy or loud. He's dry, but he's nowhere near emotionless - but he's not a softie either.

Squall is complicated and the trick to writing him and writing him well is balancing along all of these many thin lines without falling off into the plight of too much. It makes him really interesting and it's this complexity that helps carry his scenes, but. It can be hard to, uh, maneouver him into doing things he. Uh. Doesn't want to do. Or even to get him in place so that the authors can do the next Really Mean Thing to him.

SO. It's 3 am.

We've been discussing HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO WRITE SQUALL.

I think I'm talking about how stubborn Squall can be, trying to get him into place for his next emotional heart attack, and Ira says something like "He is emotionally difficult to maneouver. He's like a whale." I laugh for five minutes out loud, we have a good LOL about that mental image. I continue writing. Ira kind of fades in and out of chat for a bit but this happens, we both have other stuff going on, I'm writing and I figure she's writing and all of a sudden she sends me:

THE SQWHALE.

AT THIS POINT I AM CRYING IN LAUGHTER.

I AM NOT GOING THAT WAY becomes the newest SQUALL: IT GETS WORSE and we're both basically dying and every sentence of every scene for the next like 15 minutes turns into I AM NOT GOING THAT WAY. NO.

So then we both post it and you're just gonna have to read about the Sqoctopus yourself because there is nothing I can do to explain it that could possibly compare to the original.

Conclusion: Squids are assholes.
