The Deep Breath Before the Plunge [Helen, Nero]

Mar 20, 2010 23:36

The Enterprise would be at New Vulcan soon. The announcement of their destination had been made a few weeks ago, and as they'd drawn nearer, the crew had become more and more excited, discussing where they would go, what they would do with their time offship.

There was an undercurrent of melancholy, too. It permeated the ship, unspoken but never absent as the crew discussed their plans: people reflecting silently on the reason why there had to be a colony at all. On the magnitude of what the Vulcans had lost.

Helen went down to the brig again the day before they were scheduled to arrive.

Ayel glared at her as she passed his cells, a dark shape in the corner with shining eyes, but he didn't speak, didn't move. The guards - seemed different, somehow. Tense, unhappy.

They all had a lot ahead of them.

She stopped in front of Nero's cell. He was asleep.

And different.

She hadn't noticed with Ayel - he'd been too hidden by the shadows, and still tall and thin. But Nero's transformation was impossible to miss.

She paused, studying him. Wondering if she should wake him, or leave and come back later.

[[OOC: Since this is just before the arrival on New Vulcan, we're assuming that Nero and Ayel would have been changed back by now - note that this does not have to apply to anyone else or interfere with any other gender-switchbacking plans :D]]

the doctor is in, !nero
