Fandom: taking back Valentine's Day since 2008!

So last year bottle-of-shine had a Kissing Battle. The last edition is here (EDITED TO ADD: this is the old battle, not the current one!). It was a lot of fun and might be known around FF-fandom circles as the best Meme ever**.

The moon was shining down on Kaipo, bathing the village in a cool blue glow, and the breeze was a bit on the cool side, but Edward didn't care. His fingers were itching to play his harp in a situation that didn't require him to be facing some dangerous breed of underground monster, and his chest still ached with the gaping hole that Anna had left in him. He wondered, in the darkness, when he was at his lowest, if it would ever feel whole again. He wondered if he wanted it to.

He left the confines of the dwelling they were staying in, going out to sit next to the shimmering pool of water at the back of the town. The oasis was cool and littered with water-reeds, and it reminded him of the one they had in Damcyan before the attack, and that only led to more memories of Anna, and how her hair would look crimson when went, and how she would splash water at him whenever he got "too serious for his own good". He pulled out his harp, ignoring the now-familiar prick of hot tears in the corners of his eyes, and began to play.

When he heard the splash in the water, he had not expected the Water Hag to emerge, nor had he thought to see the semi-sparkling form of his beloved just behind the monster's sloping shoulders.

"Anna?!" he called, fingers gripping his harp so tightly his knuckles were turning white. The Water Hag was growling and sputtering and approaching him with dark features.

Fight, Edward!

And he did. He fought, he fought with everything he had, he fought with all the things he couldn't get out in songs or tears or even words, and when the Hag fell in a tumbled mess of limbs, he felt more drained than he could remember feeling in a long time. Anna was still there, shimmering just out of reach, looking radiant and beautiful, like a moon goddess in the glow. He reached for her.

"Anna," he said, his voice a strangled sob. "Oh, Anna-"

You were so brave, my love.

She leaned forward and he closed his eyes, and though he could not feel anything, he knew the warmth of her lips against his own. He could still remember how it felt to weave his fingers through her hair, those tendrils of fire, how it felt to have her cheek against his own.

Be brave for me.

"I will," he choked, throat constricting. "I will."

Aww. Poor Edward. :(

That's very sweet and sad, and a wonderful take on the scene. Thank you. :)
