L wakes curled against Misa's back, his arm wrapped around her, cradling her stomach. The room is blurry for a moment before details begin to emerge; then it becomes obvious that everything is wrong ( Read more... )

::The kiss tickles in her sleep and she smiles softly, but her hand reaches up to scratch the area, then nestles back against L and continues to sleep, undisturbed.::

((ooc: She's a good sleeper, I think. ;) ))

*This time, he gives her a little shake, then tries to pull away from her and roll her onto her back.*

Miiiiiiiiiii-sa....

*He murmurs directly into her ear in a sing-song tone.*

::this wakes her and before she can open her eyes she hears his soft voice in her ear. Smiling, she reaches out to sleepily wind her arms around his shoulders, leaning forward to softly press her lips to his::
Good morning. Hmm, it's brighter in here.

*He returns her kiss, with his eyes closed, slipping his arms around her. When the kiss breaks, he leans his forehead against hers.*

It is... festive. I think it might be someone's birthday.

*There's a faint amused note in his voice.*

Everything has changed again, Misa. Look around.

::she smiles and opens her eyes, squinting a moment at the bright light::
Oh wow, it's beautiful! And all the snow outside!

::leaning up once more, she gives him a quick peck on the lips::
Merry Christmas.

*He smiles, watching her with a fond expression on his face.*

I haven't been to the window yet. It is a bit colder in here than usual, isn't it?

*He looks down, and dismay creeps into his voice as he adds,*

The blanket is different. Similar. A different colour.

I suppose you will want to eat fried chicken today.

::she bursts out laughing::
Oh my, no. My family and I used to sit home on Christmas and laugh at all the lines shown on the news. My Mom and Grandma's used to cook ham and such on Christmas. I was thinking of cooking a little, but, what would you like today?

When I was small, it was... turkey, goose, or ham, and my mother cooked it. My grandparents were dead.

*He shivers, then squirms until he's closer to her again, which is warmer.*

It is both Christmas and your birthday. Cake is required.

*This is a declaration of incontrovertible fact.*

Maybe I will light a fire.

::she scoots closer as well; it's cold this morning.::

Yes, cake is most definitely required. Perhaps some ice cream as well...I was thinking of making a dessert my Mom used to make each year; Pumpkin Bars. They're so delicious.

::turning her face to his, she rubs her nose against his::
Is there anything special you'd like me to make today? Or find in one of the kitchens?

*A thoughtful expression passes over his face.*

If you want to make pumpkin bars, I can't stop you. But it is your birthday, and cooking is unnecessary. There is almost always enough food.

Sometimes you make it difficult to spoil you, Misa.

*He stretches out against her, takes a long moment to kiss her, then pulls away and rolls over, hanging over the edge of the bed, searching under the bed with his hands.*

Speaking of which... ah.

*He produces two packages in a stack. One is a large box, two feet by one foot by about eight inches tall; the other is smaller, slim and flat, about eight by ten inches. It looks like it might be a book. The packages are wrapped in damask-patterned blue and gold paper, and he's grateful that the change in the room does not seem to have affected them so far. He places them on the bed next to her.*

Presents.

::she laughs::
I like it when you spoil me, but I want to spoil you, too.

::her eyes light up at the packages before her::
Oh L, thank you! They're beautiful!
::Quckly she turns and pulls open a drawer from the nightstand and produces three medium to small boxes wrapped in dark blue plaid paper stacked on top of each over to make a tiered look, tied together with a sparkling light blue ribbon and topped with a slightly golden bow.::
::Holding them out to him, she smiles::
Merry Christmas.

*He sits up, holding the covers to his chest; it really is chilly in the room.*

Open yours first.

*The larger package doesn't have much heft; it contains a long black silk satin and chiffon nightgown trimmed with heavy cream-colored lace, a matching shorter chemise, black silk panties with ties over the hips, and a robe to match the two nightgowns. The ensembles are both opulent and comfortable, and it had taken several weeks of visits to the wish room to acquire them.

The other package is a slipcased copy of The Little Prince.*

::she complies and is soon slowly removing the paper at the seams. The first is The Little Prince and her eyes light up as her voice lowers, breathless::
Oh, L...thank you so much.
::a smile crosses her face, a bit embaressed::
This may sound silly, but, would you read this to me later? It's been so long since someone's read it to me.

*He gives her a long look, and then replies,*

Of course.

*He won't be able to get far enough into the book to reach the section relevant to why he has chosen it for her, though: what the prince learns from the fox. His rose is unique and special because he loves her, and as such, the prince and the rose are responsible for each other. He remembers that the book was read to him when he was a very young boy, and upon recollecting the parallel, he decided that it would be an appropriate and meaningful thing to give to her.*

Please, open the other one. Or tell me which of these I should open first.

You open one first. The top one.
::She smiles, thinking of the puzzles inside: The Isis and The Ramisis.::
I did some research and tried to find something difficult that you would be able to spend some time on. Plus, there are three parts that haven't been released yet, so even if you've done these two before, perhaps the wish room would be nice enough to provide us with the other three.

*He uses delicate motions to open the package containing the two sculptural puzzles. After revealing them, he stares at them for a long moment.*

No, I haven't done them before -- if they are recent, they are not the sort of thing that I have the opportunity to pay much attention to. Not at home, anyway.

*In the mansion, particularly in the recent past, he's felt like he has nothing but time, more time than he knows what to do with. If these are difficult, and designed such that he can't cut the proverbial Gordian Knot, they should keep him occupied for at least a little while. He's particularly grateful for her thoughtfulness, and he flashes a tiny smile at her.*

Thank you. I love them.

Open your other package, Misa.
