In film news - saw No Country for Old Men and I think I liked it but it is one of those that needs a second view. It looks desolately beautiful and is filled with those long pauses and silences that the Coens enjoy. Javier Bardem is terrifying, so much so that one woman in the cinema gasped everytime he came on screen. Lots of guns and shooting and blood so not for the faint hearted. The accents are so thick though that I felt like I missed one word in four!

I watched Pan’s Labyrinth last night (Lovefilm) which is also full of blood and actually more gruesome that No Country. The magical parts are magical but it is the grimmest of grim fairy tales. I’m glad I’ve seen it - there is an amazing imagination at work but it’s not the kind of thing I could watch repeatedly.
