Interest Explanation

Meme time! OK, Noah (angelbob ) didn't actually ask me about my interests, but I'm watching Iron Chef America while V is off at bookclub, so I'll contribute my 7 cents. (inflation, you know.)

cslounge
At CMU, I was a member of the Undergraduate CS Lounge community, spending an inordinate amount of time in the common area there. Unlike some people, I actually showered once in a while, but it was an amusing group of people. After graduation, I didn't have the presence of mind to leave CMU and kept hanging around there for a while.

Discordianism
Most of my interests draw back to CMU, so unless I say otherwise, it's assumed that that is where they are from. One finals week, I had a few days between finals and didn't feel like going all out to study for them. V, having gone to Pitt, was already home, so I had nothing better to do than to read the Illuminatus Trilogy. The absurdity and appropriateness of discordianism as an explanation of the world appealed to me.

Taoism
OMG! This came from before CMU! Yeah, the non-theism of the Taoism philosophy, at least according to my outsider's view of reading the Tao-Te Ching and other Taoist writings, seems a much better operational faith than most others. At times I veer towards full on atheism, but the social contract behind the teaching of Taoism still ring true. (Yes, I said 'social contract'. Is it that evident that I'm married to a history major and social studies teacher?) Taoism does not actually conflict with Discordianism, the combination of the two philosophies has a synergistic explanatory effect as well as being amusing.

Snyder of Berlin
Their crunchy cheese curls are better than all others. Enough said. (As for puffy ones, Pirates' Booty rules.)

gpgpu
General Purpose Programming using Graphics Hardware. Hopefully the basis of my Master's Thesis, when it gets done.

Karmann Ghia
An automotive design firm, and the bestest VW ever. I plan on someday acquiring one, and possibly converting it to an electric for commuting to work.
