Yes, my dears, I am going to tell you what's actually happening, rather than another mini-rant. Yesterday I drove down to Littletown to meet one of my English profs for lunch at the diner her husband owns. I had never eaten there before, due to the irresistible lure of another place downtown that has The Best Chicken Salad Sandwich Ever. All the food was really good, and now that I'm so close I don't have to angst over where I eat, since I know I can go back soon. (
kage_scupotea, I may even manage to eat at Earl's some time!) It was nice to get caught up with her and I promised to come down lots and maybe even show for their Sigma Tau Delta events. Apparently, their STD group hasn't been doing as well since my gang all graduated. The group here has similar non-participation woes, so I'm wondering if there is some way we can collaborate. Any STDers have ideas? The schools are about half an hour apart, so it's not much of a road trip either way.
The student worker appreciation dinner tonight was very nice. Mexican food, good fun to bond with my new underlings acolytes charges though I didn't get to officially meet all of them, and cute doorprizes. I got a nice windchime, which looks nice (so far as I can tell) on my back patio. I also got to see what is being redone with the offices, and once the chaos is over everything will be quite nice. But we will have construction guys meandering around all the way through summer.
I am invited to a contra dance tomorrow night. Googling results make it look interesting. Anyone done this before? It sounds fun, but at the same time I'm afraid of this weird Pride & Prejudice not-in-a-good-way moment. I guess if I'm not having fun, I can just leave, but I hate to pay $5, enjoy the lesson, then end up fleeing after the first dance or two. Also afraid that my wallflowerness will become more literal, or that everyone who asks me to dance will be icky. (Getting hit on in the WLMoRT parking lot - "You so beautiful I wish I could take you back to Jamaica wit me!" - has made me more freaked out about this sort of thing in general. I told him I already had someone I'm interested in. Refrained from adding "He's a Doctor!" ;) Then again,
apparently it's as geeky a thing as it sounds, so no-one there should be too bad.
Now if only there were a way to get rid of the constant revving of truck engines. Stupid rednecks, interrupting my DW and Numb3rs.
