Blood and Gold

How much does it take to corrupt a human heart? Very little.

How much does it take to destroy the world? Not much

How much does it take to reveal the dark side of humanity? Absolutely nothing.

Day in and out, I wonder... What has lead us to this stage? Was is truly Satan's temptation? Or was it the inbuilt rebelious darkness of humans themselves?

What is the purpose of life? I remember burn use to tell me, 'the purpose of life is to live, how hard is that?'

Not hard... If your purpose is to merely live and nothing else. Like zombies that roam around the earth, ever infesting, ever feeding, yet brainless and souless. Men often seek immortality, at least a particularly cruel chinese emperor did. But what was the point of it? Immortality is a curse and nothing more, and eternal punishment of anguish.

To live forever, seeing people you care for die one by one. Afraid to lose anyone again, hence resorting to shut yourself out.... Pitiful... That's what i think about Anne Rice's vampires. In their desperation for company, they would break the rule to make new blood drinkers, yet they never stay, one way or another they seperate. One by one, they went mad, and some of them, killed themselves under the bright morning sun.

Very much like Marius from 'blood and Gold' whose love for Pandora is merely locked up. Afraid to be with her because he had wronged her so much. Afraid to be with her because rejection is so painful. So he resorted to leave her, using her as a motivation, that one day i'll see her again, the only motivation that kept him, a child of the millenia alive.

Well that's just my little rant on the book blood and gold. A toast to my favorite vampire within the Anne Rice's series, Marius, child of the millenia, seeker and punisher of the evil doer, the wise and patient old one. Through your eyes i have seen the rise and fall of the roman empire, and it has been painful yet satisfying
