Yay and actual update

Just an update, 2005 was a wonderful year for me. I met the most wonderful person, Thomas who never fails to make me happy. I got to see him at MFF which was a great experience.. I hope to see much more of him. I really love that mink. ...Lets see, I am back in Utah.. woo, gonna try and get back in school, woo.. That is about it for now.

Now for my review of Quake 4..

First off, I think it makes a decent sequel to Quake 2. The storyline was good, it really explained exactly what the Strogg were and why you were fighting this war. One of my biggest complaints about the story though was that the Macron showed up.. that was like "WTF?" because it was the highlight of quake 2 distroying him, the leader of the strogg. Then bam he is in this game, and he looks nothing at all like the Macron from quake 2, nothing what so ever. Yeah there was allot of character changes, but you could tell.. The grunts looked kinda the same, you can tell the guys with spike arms, those annoying jetpack bastards, the railgun guys.. They did replace the chaingun guys though, with these ugly green things.. Also the frog things spawned grunts, wtf..

Weapons were a bit different, not really anything like the last aside from being the same name and simular firing. Nailgun took the place of the chaingun which isn't a bad trade, I like the nailgun. Also brought back the lighting gun.. There was the intruduction of a BFG like gun, which I didn't like really.. Not a fan of it, wasn't in the first, the BFG10K was in the second but eh. This gun wasn't like the newer BFGs of quake 3.. it was called the dark matter gun. It fired allot like the original BFG from doom, a big charge, slow moving projectile that rips through everything and ends in a big explosion.. Another note on the weapons, you could meet techs throughout the game that would improved your guns, that was a nice addition.

Next somethings that annoyed me. Vehicals.. mainly because I hate them in FPSs. They were annoying as hell but the maps where short for the most part. Another that was both a plus and a negative, the team play feeling. It was great having medics and raiding biulding with a team, but on the other hand the lone soldier rambo feeling was impossible, allot of the times you had to protect guys and they died and pissed me off.. it was very objective based besides just getting to the end of the map... Another interesting addition was a certain spot with.. zombies, that is right. Think they were trying to get the zombie terror feel from the original quake, and it worked somewhat.

All in all it is worth playing if you liked the second, or like good sci-fi FPSs. They storyline was good, a very epic feel.. though you fallowed quite a shallow character, the rest of your marines give the game characteristic. The maps were all great, you are constently moving to newer and better places, most of all it didn't have that repetitive feeling of doom 3. (The run into a room, kill enemies, run though a simular room, kill enemies for 20 minutes till you clear the map feel.)

I'd recommend it.
