I think it's the anthem of Soviet Russia. Which I think didn't exist yet at the time you're from.

What did Russia do for the announcement to trigger those reactions?

From what we learned about it in school, it was a pretty unpleasant place. The other nations would know more than me.

I see.

A lot of things changed.

Yeah, I guess so. Russia wasn't the only place where things got pretty shitty for awhile, but I guess the one most of the people here had experience with.

Yeah, no problem.

Just so you know, though, things get better eventually.

That is relieving.

Do you have detailed information about the second great war in Asia?

You mean World War II? In the 1940's? Yeah, I know about it. What do you want to know?

What did Japan do to us?

In the '30's, Japan invaded northeastern China, and in the '40's, they took over Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. They occupied all that territory until the war ended.

How high was the level of cruelty?

It was bad. Millions of people died because of attacks, famines and forced labor. POWs were used for medical experiments. I've even heard stories about Japanese soldiers killing and eating prisoners.

That's just during the war, too. I'm sure more people died in Korea and Manchuria before Japan entered the war.

...did that happen to all of us?

It was worse for some than for others, probably. Vietnam and Indonesia...er, the Dutch East Indies at that time, had bad famines at the end of the war. And people were exploited in all those places, and killed in attacks.

I see.

Thank you.

If something comes up, can I ask you again?
