[ Hashirama is happy to be here. He is in the one place he had always wanted to be, and not up a stage preaching politics and scamming the masses like his forefathers had done. He was a teacher, which was a much nobler profession than politics. ]

What about conflict?

Are you familiar with Karl Marx?
[ Although he signed up to teach History, he was very much aware that he would end up teaching a good deal of sociology and philosophy along with it. They were, after all, interrelated. ]
The Conflict Theory is attributed to him.
[ Hashirama finally moves from his spot and makes his way to the desk in front of Neji's. Leaning against the edge of it, he continues: ]
Marx posited that there would always be conflict, a struggle, between socioeconomic classes. He also seemed to encourage this conflict. It was a good thing, apparently, this friction between classes.
[ Have a smile, Neji~ ]
What do you think? Would you agree with him?

I am familiar with him and the conflict theory, yes. I believe it is foolish and insipid to idealize a world in which there is no conflict. There will always be struggles between people, whether they be of different socioeconomic classes as you just stated or not. It is the way of man. Do I think it is a good thing? Well, it does establish pecking order, absolutely...
I think whether it is good or not is up to the interpretation of the individual of which you are asking the question. And my opinion of it is rather mixed. I can see where it has its benefits, but there are also negatives, as well.

Mmm. It is foolish to idealize a world without conflict.
[ Gets off the table and walks over to the board, writing down the word communism underneath CONFLICT and draws a connecting line between them. ] Communism used a lot of the ideals from Marxism in the beginning, aiming to establish a stateless, classless society. A society without conflict. Utopia.
Now, what's wrong with this picture? [ He circles the word 'communism' ] Where did they go wrong? If you could try and elaborate with a few examples in history...?

And not everyone was receptive to the idea of having communism forced down their throats. Their idealist fantasies were not that of reality, and intelligent people could obviously see that. For example, in 1923 Bulgarian communists attempted an uprising, but like most of their other European counterparts in prior years before, they were defeated.
[Brb Neji is currently experiencing a state of educational euphoria, leave a message after the tone.... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.......]

Young man, you've just made my day :) [ He's looking through the list of students enrolled in his class. ] And... what would your name be?

I have to say, if all your classes will be this intellectually stimulating, then you can mark me present for all of them.

[ Laughs ] You like challenges, mm? Well, I suppose I shouldn't disappoint. [ Have a grin, Neji~ ] I wouldn't want my brightest student to be bored now, would I?
[ Thanks to Neji, Hashirama is now under the false impression that the intellect of all students in this school is exceptional |: ]
