According to my History instructor, there are only three things that we need to learn in his class.
1. The difference between strategy and tactics, so that we don't sound like the rest of the idiots doing commentary on TV.
2. How to spell Napoleon.
3. How to spell cavalry. Calvary is something completely different.
I actually knew all three of those before I entered high school. But I'm a freak.
On another note, it's interesting how closely Spanish naval tactics in the 16th Century resemble a musket infantry approach. Allowing for differences in technology etc, the Spanish approach can be summed up as 'fire one volley, fix bayonets, and charge!' The problem with using this approach at sea is that it's easier for your opponent to run away.
