Txt is free but email requires anupgrade? Orly?

Now this is odd...

Why is it that LJ requires an upgrade to be able to post via Email however TXT posting is free with a basic account?

It would seem to me that running an SMS gateway is more expensive than running an email server as email does not require a third party service provider.

livejournal, wtf?

It has to do with the password/pin you set up for email posting. In order for you to be able to text post, LJ just needs your cell phone number, and maybe you have to authorize it or something (it's been a long time) in order to email post, not only do you have to give the email address but you have to set up a password and then said password has to be included in your email in one of three ways. I can only assume it's more costly for the email because of the password process.

Hey,
One of the people on my flist has some questions about computer setup and what would work with what she has.
I told her that I know a genius on that very topic, and would ask if you could answer those questions.
Would you help the tech challenged?
If you have the time, here is the post.

I did not tell her your name if you cannot, so do not feel obligated, cause you haven't been.
Thanks for the listen,
C
