So on Tuesday I got assigned to what is known to our players as Super Secret, Vast and Mysterious. I was a little worried about what this would do to what I normally work on, which is game systems(things like crafting, items and other things related to rules and non-standard game play in the game), but according to my boss this was more important at the time. So I begin this project which I am told is supposed to be done by the end of the week.
Well it started off lovely, since I couldn't actually access SSV&M on my computer for some reason. So I write a bug related to that. Today it comes down that someone figured it out. It was a firewall related issue... something I have been having far too much of since they did an update with it.
So this fixed I begin my work on SSV&M, two problems present themselves. 1) I am finding way, way to many bugs. 2) Because of one my work is being slowed severely... and it is supposed to be done by *drum roll* Yesterday! That's right... they didn't tell me they wanted it done Wednesday, but that was the last day for check-ins on the project... so all these bugs I am finding... yea they aren't gonna be fixed for another week or two...
So being stalwart I tell the people I usually game with Thursday nights that I won't be there because I want to pull some OT and get this as close to done as possible, just in case someone makes some last minute check-ins. (check-ins = bug fixes)
Well disappointed, my friends/co-workers understand. So I run off to grab dinner. I return and after eating begin work anew. My next issue comes soon in the form of me needing to ask a question of a superior... one which is not present despite the need of this to get done. So I press on, taking notes and such for questions to ask the next day.
Only an hour into my OT and something goes horribly wrong... SSV&M goes down. Meaning it cannot be accessed anymore and thus no longer tested. Meaning I have wasted time (the last hour plus the late drive home), money (dinner) and effort (canceling my attendance to my game so that I can make sure this gets done). To add insult to injury the DM for our game that night has already left, so we can't even make that up.
So... I do what any other individual who is angered by their wasted effort after fighting through set back after set back... I rip off my headset and throw it down on my desk in defeat, specifically in the direction of my keyboard... which lies right in front of my monitor... That's right... it bounced! Then proceeded to crash into the monitor at a much higher velocity than I had believed I had thrown said headphones. My left monitor is now trashed with a giant set of impact cracks in it.
At this point I wholly and fully gave up... I put in a ticket for a request for a new monitor with our IT department and left. Tomorrow oughtta be interesting indeed!
... and no the icon is not a coincidence... I think it fits perfectly.
