4am

Ok,

I woke up at noonish today and made some coffee and took a show and watched the end of Envy. Good start.
At about 3 I sat down in the studio and started recording. Payne let me borrow his Ampeg head, so I started with the bass tracks. I spent an hour or so getting my tone, and reading up on proper EQing techniques and came up with a real nicey chocolately tone. After that, I realized I had to write a bassline, so I spent the next hour or so actually writing something and I'm VERY pleased with what I came up with. It's very Nate Mendel-ish. After that, I spent FOREVER trying to fucking get that new Vox pedal to cooperate. My studio program crashed as soon as I laid down good distorted guitar tracks and I lost everything. I was pissed. Luckily I had the basslines and stuff saved, even though I wrote down all my settings, like a good engineer. I eventually came up with a sweet 90's Marshall tone for the lead, and a US High Gain for rhythm. As soon as my parents are gone for a good few hours, I'm gonna mic up my Twin and get live tones. I want a HAIL of guitars. I'm probably a 1/4 of the way done with this song, but I have learned so much just in the last week, that I am very confident in this project. I've always wanted to record myself but never took the time to actually do so. Now that I'm done with FlagAss, I need to take advantage of this time. I wanna get some nice Studio moniters. I think I can get the Yamaha NS-10's that my brother has for like 400 or less on eBay. I can handle that, or rather my credit card can. I'm so very very very pumped to finish even just this song. Creating the myspace for it will be a proud day indeed. I can't wait to hear what Payne, Bear, John, Dan, and Erik have to say about it. Those 5 will probably appreciate what I'm doing more than anyone else I know.
Drums are going to be difficult. It's either get damn good at recording live drums, or use the Alesis drum machine. I'm crossing my fingers that these songs end up sounding so good that I won't have to pay Matt to record them for me. Plus, I'd give myself a HUGE pat on the back for doing this whole thing on my own. That alone is worth the project. And who knows, maybe people will like it and I'll actually have a reason to press it and possibly make some cash! That would rule, cause any money helps, and I'd LOVE to quit my job for music. AND if I get good enough, I could record other people for reasonable amounts of money. Anyone who can't afford Matt's studio can get a half assed job from me for a fraction of the price! MWaAhaHAHAhAHAha.

But seriously. This song is called "4am." You will be pumped.
