Chapter 1

Kame surveyed the scene from his seat at the back of the bar, people either celebrating their achievements or drowning their sorrows in the bottle or glass before them. It was a sight he witnessed five days a week. At first working at Johnny's had seemed thrilling , now he was tiring of it like many things in his life. As his eyes flickered over the bar's patrons, Kame noticed the couple in a booth on the other side of the crowded room. They were practically sitting in each other's laps, and he gave them about five more minutes before his tongue was down her throat.

"How long do you give them before her hands are in his pants?" Koki asked flatly as if this was a common occurrence for them. Unfortunately for them, it was.

"Ten minutes, fifteen tops," Kame answered taking a sip of his beer. It was the end of their shift, having both worked the dinner rush. Now they were taking advantage of the discounted drinks.

Koki pointed at the couple with the top of his bottle, "I wonder if their spouses now about this."

Kame snorted with a smirk, "doubt it. Explains why they're sitting in the shadows where they think no one will notice them."

Koki shook his head, "when will people learn?" he asked rhetorically before taking a drink. "Promise me if you ever have an affair you'll sit in the middle of the restaurant where people will ignore you."

"Koki, I kinda need to be in a relationship in order to have an affair" Kame answered unable to keep all the bitterness from his voice.

"We should really stop watching them," Koki stated taking another drink, showing no sign of looking away from the couple in the shadows.

Kame brushed his bangs out of his face, the rest of his shoulder length hair still restrained in a ponytail, "why? Everyone else is watching them, we're doing it more openly."

"That's it," Koki started putting his bottle on the table with conviction. "You need to stop this moping around of yours."

Kame didn't respond, quirking an eyebrow at his friend taking another drink out of his beer. This was one of the dangers of drinking with Koki, after awhile the alcohol started giving him ideas.

"What you need, is to get laid." Koki declared as if it was the missing secret of Kame's life. "Not that finding someone willing to lay you will be a problem. I'm serious!" he protested as Kame shook his head with a smile. "I watch all the women that constantly hit on you! One of the benefits of being a waiter instead of the lonely bartender by the way."

Kame smiled sweetly at his friend, "then I'll send the next one that pinches my ass over your way. Besides half of them are married and old enough to be my mother." Out of sheer curiosity, Kame peered over at the couple in the shadows again. The woman had her face buried in her partner's neck, hands disappeared under the table. The look on the man's face made it very clear just where her hands were and what they were doing. Kame looked at his watch, ten minutes just as he had called it.

"What about the men that hit on you? Any of them strike you're interest?" Koki asked pulling Kame's attention back to the conversation.

"They all see me as a piece of ass. I'm not interested in that." Kame replied as he watched the woman slide under the table. He was seriously glad he didn't have to do clean up tonight.

"You better not be getting any ideas from those two," Koki warned watching the waiter with narrowed eyes.

"And run the risk of Taguchi killing me? Don't think so." Kame assured the other man as they both turned to the man in question. Junno was three tables away taking an order from a group of females who all appeared to be in their late twenties. He nodded as he wrote down their requests, his carefree smile appearing whenever one of the party flirted with him. As he turned to fill the orders, Junno noticed the two men watching him. He winked then headed to the bar, a sway to his hips that wouldn't be noticed unless the observer knew the way he normally walked. Kame knew the whole display was for Koki, it was Junno's way of reassuring his lover. At work, he might flirt with the patrons but behind closed doors, his heart and body belonged to only one man.

"Okay so no one from here," Koki continued while still watching Junno as he leaned over the bar to give Shige the order. He was purposely taunting Koki with the way his ass was sticking out. Kame could only imagine how Koki would respond to all of this when Junno finally made it home tonight. "Junno has this friend, well ex-boyfriend actually."

"Great, I've reached the point where you're setting me up with Taguchi's cast offs now?" Kame asked voice dripping with sarcasm.

Koki finally managed to tear his eyes away from his lover's ass and gave Kame a scathing look. "He's just gotten out of a relationship that was pretty toxic. I just thought he might be in need of some consoling."

"I told you, I'm not interested in being someone's piece of ass." Kame said flatly before taking another drink. Koki shrugged but took the cue to drop the subject. Kame looked down at his bottle, the last thing he wanted was to be someone's rebound. He'd had enough of the meaningless sex that lead to nowhere. Taking another swig, he looked around the bar at all the people that were enjoying their time with someone only half listening to Koki prattle on about something him and Junno did together on their last day off. Kame had to admit the truth, he was lonely, just like almost everyone else in this room. It was the reason he stayed behind about twice a week for a beer after his shift, he didn't want to go home to an empty apartment.

Maybe I don't have to anymore he thought. He hated to admit it, but Koki had planted the seed of curiosity into his head. That combined with the alcohol had Kame wondering if having a fuck-buddy wasn't such a bad idea, "so what did you say this guy looked like?"
