Summary: Parental!AU Yixing is upset. His teacher schedules a talk with Yixing's parents. (Kid!Yixing)

The usual giggles and nonsensical blabbers are absent in this car ride as the soft sounds of ‘Female President’ filter the silence. It is a Monday morning and Baekhyun is driving his son to school an hour earlier.

Yixing quietly settles in the passenger seat, takes his drawing block out and begins to colour. Yixing has always been a lovely child ever since Baekhyun and Kris picked him up from the adoption centre.

The eight-year-old-boy is constantly full of questions, rambling on about his day or dopily smiling to himself, which makes him a bundle of joy for the couple who has always wanted a child to complete their family.

(It also helps that Yixing has Chinese blood and so Kris is especially fond of him)

But today, he is exceptionally quiet, focused on filling in the colour of a little hut he drew. And it’s a very sad matter how their child can draw so much better than Kris ever will.

“So,” Baekhyun tries to strike a conversation, voice dubbing over the latest pop song in he background. “Why does Mr. Kim want to see me?”

Yixing says nothing, but instead tightens the hold on his red crayon and continues to colour.

“Yixing. It’s rude to ignore me,” Baekhyun chides while simultaneously following the directions his GPS is giving.

The child meekly responds, “Sorry daddy.”

Baekhyun can hear the trembling sadness in his voice and his heart just caves in. He spares a quick glance over and he sees that adorable one-sided dimple his son has and oh come on, how can he get angry at that. “No, sweetheart, I’m not reprimanding you. I just want to know what’s going on.”

Yixing switches to a purple crayon and shades in the roof of the hut.

Baekhyun sighs, “Sweetheart-“

“I don’t want daddy to be hurt,” Yixing cries out, sadly pouting at his unfinished drawing.

“What are you talking about, Yixing?” Baekhyun frowns, “How does that relate to your teacher wanting to see me?”

The boy simply stares off into space and maintains his silence.

“If this is about why you have two dads, Yixing, it’s a complicated issue,” Baekhyun says, making a left turn. “We’re just you know, different. Different is good, different is wonderful, different is like, you know…”

“No,” Yixing pouts. “It’s not that.”

Baekhyun doesn’t have time to probe because his phone rings and he connects the call through his wireless earpiece.

“What.”

“Babe,” his husband’s voice rings from the other end of the line.

“Wu Yi Fan, I warned you not to call me that anymore,” Baekhyun deadpans. “I’m a 27 year-old-man, and I do not wish to be referred to as ‘babe’.”

Kris chuckles, “Fine. Baby honeybear,”

“You embarrassing bitch.”

Yixing whimpers in the background.

Baekhyun looks over concernedly, “Oh, what’s wrong, dear?”

“Are you with Yixing?”

“Yeah,” Baekhyun enters the school’s parking lot. “His teacher wants to see me. I don’t know why.”

“I see,” Kris replies. “If he has gotten into a fight, I hope he’s the one who won it.”

“Kris!” Baekhyun shrieks, “Way to go, Parenting 101. 10 points for you Papa Bear.”

He can basically hear the shrug in Kris’ voice. “He’s my son, he should win it.”

“We’re not having this conversation.” Baekhyun kills the engine.

“Anyway,” Kris continues, “I called to tell you that the repairman is coming over to fix that faulty bedroom door later.”

“Finally, you lazy dipshit,” Baekhyun rolls his eyes and Yixing lets out a soft whine in his seat. “It’s been a week.”

“… Sorry.”

“Whatever. Baby I’ll call you back, I’m going to see his teacher now.”

“Okay, bye.”

He ushers Yixing out of the BMW, linking their hands together. Baekhyun doesn’t know if it’s just him, or if Yixing’s face just got a lot mopeier.

“I’m so glad you can make it, Mr Byun!” Mr Kim, a man with a smile that shines like a galaxy of stars greets, firmly shaking hands with Baekhyun.

Baekhyun squats to Yixing’s eye level and kisses him on the forehead. “I’ll be back soon, okay?”

Yixing nods before attacking Baekhyun with a tight bear hug. Stunned by the sudden show of affection, Baekhyun laughs and ruffles his son’s hair.

Yixing quietly shuffles to his seat while Baekhyun follows Mr Kim to the teacher’s lounge.

They sit across each other at a coffee table and Baekhyun asks, “Is there a reason why you called me here? Is Yixing misbehaving in school?”

Mr Kim widens his eyes before shaking his head. “Oh no no, Yixing has been a wonderful child. Participative and polite.”

Baekhyun forehead creases as he adjusts the gold cufflinks of his white button-down. “Then, what’s the issue?”

Mr Kim looks all sorts of awkward, hesitantly biting his lips and rubbing his palms together. “I’m sorry for asking this. But, are there any problems at home?”

“What are you implying?” Baekhyun slightly recoils at the personal and invasive question. “My husband and I-“

He stops himself midway because-

“It’s okay,” the teacher assures with a small smile. “The school knows about it.”

Right, Baekhyun thinks to himself. Why wouldn’t the school know that one of their students has two fathers.

“Okay. As I was saying,” Baekhyun coughs, “We’re perfectly fine. Great, fantastic, splendid, excellent, fabulous.”

Mr Kim contemplates his words a little before reaching beneath the coffee table, pulling out a drawing book Baekhyun recognises is Yixing’s. He hands it to Baekhyun and gestures for him to flip through it.

Inside the green cover are pages of random drawings, from mammals to landscapes, multi-coloured monsters and finally, a drawing of their family portrait.

Baekhyun and Kris are holding Yixing’s hand while the child stands in the middle with a cartoonish grin. The background is filled with an explosion of fireworks, and a yellow sun at the top right-hand corner of the paper. Unknowingly, Baekhyun smiles fondly at the artwork his son has done.

“He’s very good at drawing,” Mr Kim comments sincerely.

Yeah, unlike his father, Baekhyun wants to add haughtily but decides against it. However, he still doesn’t see the issue here. So his teacher called him over from work just to talk about Yixing’s knack in art?

“Those are his past drawings,” the teacher explains, revealing another art pad and pushing it towards Baekhyun. “This is what he drew recently.”

From his tone, Baekhyun senses that something’s not right. Nonetheless, he accepts the drawing pad and looks at it anyway.

His jaw drops when he sees the first drawing in the book.

The drawing illustrates a man on the bed (presumably him) with another blonde man (Kris) standing over the bed and pointing a commanding finger at him. In the drawing, Baekhyun looks upset as he curls into a ball defensively.

In the midst of confusion, he also notices that the set-up of the bedroom would be an exact replica of their own at home if they ever got sucked in a comic book. He takes a second to mentally applaud his son’s talent.

But what shocks him is that Yixing is in the drawing too. Yixing draws himself peeking through the gap of the door, tears streaming down his face.

Baekhyun chokes at this and hurriedly turns to the next drawing.

In the same bedroom and setting, Baekhyun is now seen kneeling on the bed while Kris holds out a belt, staring intensely at him. As he scrutinises the drawing, he realises that there are thick red lines smeared across both of his wrists.

Instantly, he undoes his cufflinks and rolls the sleeves up. Similar to his son’s drawing, there are two marks on each of his wrists, the red already fading into a dull purple.

Mr Kim anxiously gasps at the marks and exclaims, “You have to call the police! Your husband is a monster!”

Baekhyun is speechless as he blinks at Yixing’s teacher.

“Kris, you have to come to school now.”

“Why? I’m still at work.”

“I don’t give a shit,” Baekhyun whispers to the phone, careful not to let Yixing (or his teacher) hear the fowl language.

Mr Kim is beside a sad-looking Yixing, patiently watching him paint while he sits on a blue plastic chair that’s a size too small for the educator.

“Get your fat and egoistical ass to school now.”

“Your ass is the jiggly one.”

Baekhyun gasps in dramatic offence before dismissing it. “Whatever,” he grumbles because right now, nothing can be more important than his son.

“Come down now and explain to your son what role-playing is.”

A/N: I was daydreaming on the bus then this popped up and… yeah.
