Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, huh? interesting choice. i had my money on old, hardline reformer, and italian.

he turned 78 on saturday, (Popes are often asked to resign at 80, although they have no obligation to do so.) he is a hard liner against gays, women priests and other controversial issues, and he's the first Pope from a "german speaking land" since 1055.....
almost had a real fire today. almost. and why do they always come right after lunch on hot days? allen was funny. he was very excited. there was a lot of fire, to his credit, but it turned out to be a greenhouse or something that burned to a crisp. oh well.
one of the guys at lunch today was supprised that there had been 265 Popes so far. and i responded with well, when you've been around since the year 0 - or at least about 32ish.... i couldn't believe what he said next....
he said "year 0? we couldn't even speak then. we were all cavemen dragging out knuckles." yea, that was a direct quote....
