All right, I'm just being sappy, but I didn't know that JKR was so sappy too, and I just have to express such love for this here passage:

a) Give the incantation and b) describe the wand movement required to make objects fly.Harry had a fleeting memory of a club soaring high into the air and landing loudly on the thick skull of a troll… smiling ( Read more... )

I read that and immediately thought of Not as a Last Resort by, of course, arabe1la, where it's Hermione doing the reflection as Ron's levitating Hagrid's toffee.

I agree, though: it's not really JKR's style... but then, other bits within the book didn't really seem her 'style', per se.

Oh, and I like your icon. seviet is a genius, and has so got within the very fabric of OotP it's unreal.

I agree that it's kind of sentimental for her, but I thought JKR was showing Harry as nostalgic and remniscent throughout OotP. He spent an awful lot of time talking about and thinking about past events. I'm wondering if that's a characteristic of fifteen-year-olds, or if JKR did that instead of recapping past books at the beginning, or if she's trying to remind us of some important past clues, thinking we might have forgotten after three years.

Some things which seemed to come up quite often are Hermione being Polyjuiced into a cat and the Dementors attacking Sirius. We are also pointedly reminded of Neville's (now lost) Remembrall. Verrry interesting....

YES. With the cat in particular I am reminded of SK saying that something was important to inlcude in the second movie, something that will play out - I still think it's the cat. They could have just had her not take part in the Polyjuice scene, just make the potion for Harry and Ron.

Yeah. Hm. Argh. Can't do this to me in the middle of the workday!

smiling slightly, he bent over the paper and began to write.
*melts* Just mentioning that this sentence was one of the loveliest in the books.

So now that's done, goodbye. :)

That *is* a nice passage. For some reason, I got a distinctively H/H vibe from that line on my first reading...I need to find that part again and figure out why. *shrugs*

I also agree to what you and Angua said about the reminiscing/foreshadowing as well. (The Cat in the [Witch's] Hat Comes Back, anyone?)

Anyway, I'm Lilac from SQ. Emily/Wahlee pointed me towards your LJ, and since I'm a huge Firelox and TLC fan, I thought I'd friend you. Thanks for your wonderful thoughts on book 5!

I know! I love that line, it made me all teary-eyed the first time I read it... Like you said, it reminded me of how innocent the world was back then. Wah.
