All right you've all read the freaking book, I'm not cutting it, email me if you have protests.
But Neville. Let us just rejoice over the Neville, okay?
I'm almost through my second read. And Neville has never been more wonderful in my eyes, and it's all because of this bit:
"Neville had slid down the stone benches one by one to the place where Harry stood...
'Harry...I'b really sorry...' said Neville. His legs were still dancing uncontrollably. 'Was dad man - was Sirius Black a - a friend of yours?' "
Now, in reading slow, I actually had time to think about this. Neville - Neville who has been hurt by Voldemort just like Harry. Who is spurred on to DA greatness by the thought of giving justice to those who hurt his parents. Who has every reason to hate every supporter of Voldemort as much as Harry does.
Neville does not even know Sirius is innocent. Or if he does, he's only been given a very recent, sketchy telling of it - and consider how long it took Harry to come to terms with it. All he knows is they're off to SAVE him, when until now he has every reason to believe Sirius was V's biggest supporter and is on his side - that is, unless Harry said differently in that interview, and if he did Neville did not notice it, because he asks about their relationship. And Neville does not flinch in going to rescue him.
Sirius blasts in and proves himself to be fighting on their side, but Neville is still remarkably quick on the uptake to believe that he's good - Harry believes so, that seems to be enough. If I were Neville I'd be confused as HELL and might have launched myself at Sirius.
But no. The second Sirius...disappears...Neville clambers over to Harry and offers his condolences. He does not even know their relationship, just knows Harry is hurting for him, and therefore Sirius Black is someone to be mourned.
Forget Harry, man. I want to marry NEVILLE.
