New Apartment

Aug 21, 2009 22:02

I arrived just under a week ago, and have spent most of the intervening time carrying things, assembling furniture, buying things, taping things to walls, and working out the free bus system. Other than burning about a zillion calories going up and down the stairs (someone stop me next time I decide to move into a third floor apartment in an area with 90% humidity), my biggest accomplishment has been finding my way to the farmer's market AND finding my way back*. Also, I have delicious local vegetables.

I have met several other people in the area, by my usually methods, i.e. being lost and general conversational assault. Have yet to meet anyone who wasn't very nice about the whole thing. I love being back in the South!

Other notable events included graduate school orientation yesterday, during which I brilliantly introduced myself to the entire entering class by the expedient of volunteering for the improv demonstration. Nothing like doing ridiculous things in front of strangers! I also learned about the importance of forming a good mentoring relationship (dull), financial aid (disheartening), and the best places to eat around campus (valuable). Most importantly, I acquired much free stuff.

I have been more or less unproductive with all my spare time. Tomorrow, I will make a concerted effort to Do Something. I have no idea what form that might take, mind, but it may involve an adventure! If so, I'll be sure to share the heroic tale.

*The fact that this took the intervention of three people does not diminish the accomplishment.

vegetables are tasty, grad school, moving is death, sylvia gets lost, southern gal
