"It only took the bears two hours"
"How many of them were there?"
So,
LOST was really fucking creepy yesterday, eh?
I love that if you think about it, no questions were actually answered, just so many more questions raised. But really I'm fine with it. I'm super psyched for this season, I think they're going to just keep adding interesting new things and characters. And maybe, just maybe, we'll actually get some kind of answers. What I like about the show is that no matter how many mysteries get answered, invariably the answers themselves uncover even more mysteries! Also, the whole suburban living book club opening is just a hint at just how much bigger this thing is. It started off freaky enough, this weirdo island that these guys are shipwrecked on, but every season we realize that it is just SO. MUCH. BIGGER. than any of that. I still can't wrap my mind around it.
I missed seeing the rest of the cast, but surprisingly I didn't mind an episode with nothing but Sawyer, Kate, and Jack! Normally I'd be wanting to rip my hair out, but they don't grate on me as much anymore. And maybe it also has something to do with the fact that they were all separated and The Others are just being so damn interesting. So the key to me tolerating the trio seems to be, keep them separated and stop giving Kate annoying dialogue. Speaking of which, I have to say, I was actually really impressed with Evangeline Lily's acting last night. It was believable, and she didn't annoy the piss out of me. And I was even into the little bit of Kate/Sawyer interaction. It was cute, not irritating. What's the change? Is it better writing? The fact that they're in cages? I have no idea, but I'm into it. The way Sawyer was looking at her, awwww, so cute. I like him better when he's concerned and worried but trying to hide it, instead of Mr. I'm-So-Suave. I like me a good Sawyer one-liner as much as the next guy, but come on. Sometimes I like to see a little emotion. He continues to be a favorite though. The little dance he did when he won the food pellets, haha! So awesome. And running the opposite way, that's a good boy. He's no dummy.
But what I'd really love is for them to finally start realizing that EVERYTHING that The Others do is a trap or a setup, and they are NOT to be trusted. Why don't they get that through their heads? Even Jack opening the trap door of watery doom was probably intentional on their parts. I kinda just want to smack Jack and make him resist their mindgames! But I guess it's all part of human nature...we want to trust people and have people on our sides. It's interesting.
By the end of a Kate/Jack/Sawyer hour I was beginning to forget all about the rest of the island, but I'm definitely psyched about seeing what the rest of them are up to next week. I'm kind of glad that Ana-Lucia's gone, now that I think about it she didn't really add much to the show. I'm bummed that they got rid of Libby though, she had so much potential for intrigue. But what I'm really interested in is how much screen time and plot time they give to Sun and Jin. I think they could totally do a whole lot more with those two, they have such chemistry, and it's really one of the first time on TV that an Asian romance has been portrayed as a main storyline. I hope those two don't get passed up for other (probably lamer) storylines. Now that Michael and his incessant search for Walt is over, I'm hoping that we'll get to see more of the other characters.
Although I have to say, LOST has always been good about giving a lot of screen time to every character. I'm glad they like to rotate the focus of each episode. Even though they like to spend a little more time on Jack (apparently every season is gonna open with a Jack episode? Eh, ok), they're pretty good at keeping it an ensemble show. Way to go, guys.
