Soundscapes

Plug in.

Headphone speakers sit in their designated contours as the first stair-step waves caress tone from binary vibration. First comes a whisper, a come-hither taunt. Memories of instruments layer and culminate in a crescendo of well-engineered chaos and euphony. Weather-weary windows of the soul close allowing pathways of the mind to open. Vibrations circulated from memory to memory stir an imagination once resting in a wakeful mind to action.

Pulses of sound become flashes of light, now colored, forming familiar shapes and places. Truth unfolds as the come-hither whisper swells into tsunami waves of chills. The sounds take over, heart pulse racing to match the pace and keep in phase with the flowing tonal tides. Light is now let in from closed windows as the soul renews, harmonizing itself into the chords and instrumentation to build on each new wave as it opens and fades. Distinctions decay: here and there become irrelevant in the spacetime bundle. I disappears along with every you and we and for a moment, there is only that. The moment.

Layer by layer, the memories recede into order as bit after binary bit of me reappears, beginning with a breath. Windows reopen to adjust to the light outside. The world is familiar, but irreconcilably foreign.

At last, imagination is laid back to rest as mind re-emerges from the soundscape, distinct, but not quite the same.
