Hello...I don't feel any less foolish doing this, even though I know I'll get a response if I talk...

Anyway, I'm Shaz, and I'm from London. [She hesitates, and then adds:] Earth. 1982. I'm a policewoman at home, and Lieutenant-Colonel Hughes said that there were three groups here who try to protect Luceti. And now I've had a chance to look around ( Read more... )

[Hesitantly, and a bit loudly:] I am Jacky, from London. Are - are you new here?

Hi, Jacky! I've been here a couple of weeks, actually. It's just taken me this long to...kind of get used to it. What about you?

Not two weeks yet, myself. It is a very strange place, isn't it? These books, for example, I do not understand in the least.

Yeah, me neither. I've just been trying to pretend it's a book-shaped radio. I still feel like a bit of a twat, though.

[She considers this.] What is a radio? [Then, more confidently:] It is not very nice to call yourself such a thing. Women should not be referred to by their - female endowments.

It was August of the year eighteen-hundred-and-six, in the reign of our king George III - when suddenly I woke up here, in a world of talking books and men who walk on water.

Men who walk on water?! What, like Jesus?

Very much like that, yes, except I do not think this man was any Jesus.

This place is weird. I can't think of any way to go about explaining that one. What'd you see exactly?

[Excitedly:] Just as I said, Shaz, a man walking on water! He could even stand still, just floatin' on the river like it were good solid earth. He called himself Shino. I have seen amazing things, Shaz, but I have never seen that.

Wow...neither have I. [pause] I guess it must've been magic, then.

Most magic is a trick played on gullible people by crooks with quick hands. [A pause, then grudgingly:] I suppose he could have been on stilts.

He could've been. But what explains these books, then? Something's inexplicable, here, whether it's the man walking on water or the journals.

I don't know... but there is something like this where you are from? A way of speaking to people who are not nearby?

Well, sort of. But radios are obviously not magic. They have wires and batteries in them to make them work...though I don't know how they do. I guess maybe this could just be a really advanced radio?
