(no subject)

My spring break officially began today... I sorely needed it after a weekend of driving to Athens and playing host to a bunch of relatives. There were times when I felt absolutely foolish, how when I was preparing dinner and my Aunt Rita, whom I had never met before, insisted on taking over and I couldn't refuse... though my thoughts at the time were to insist that I should do all the work. On the plus side I did get to chat with my great uncle Ray, the closest thing to a grandparent I've got. He's a good old fashioned Irish Catholic guy who talks just like Rodney Dangerfield, only in a much more subdued tone. He, my aunt, and my uncle's friend who came with him, all left this morning at an early hour, which allowed me to wake up at 6 AM and fall back asleep on the comfort of my own soft leather couch until 12:30.

My dad has been pestering/pushing/encouraging me to get an internship in D.C. this summer, in spite of my apprehension. After a rather heated argument about the subject, I am finally starting to come around to the prospect of fetching coffee and answering phones for the congressional sub-committee on education and the workforce. My resume doesn't look too shabby, except for the rather glaring lack of practical work experience, though I did get to put down all of my achievements in highschool, which is pretty much just academic bowl related. I am almost certain I can get the job though because of my references... my dad has quite a lot of friends in high places: chairmen on committees, executives of large corperations, etc. He spent nearly half of his work day calling these people and asking them to put in a good word for me, in spite of the fact they've never met me. I feel weird about the whole thing... it's practically lying, but my dad repied "That, Evan, is what friends are for." I suppose he is right.

Last night being my first night out since all of my relatives arrived was like Atlas removing the world from his shoulders or opening up a hot radiator... three days worth of mental solitude was uncapped in an explosion of talkativeness... me being the talkative one, which is rare.

I hope to have a rockin' good time in Savannah with Lizz and company, even though I don't think I'll be getting as drunk as I hope to. Whatever, I say. At least I'll be out with some friends in a crazy town filled with drunks... you know, what everyone wants for Spring Break.

If you're going to be in the area, though the only ones I know of will be Jana Michaelson and Nick Johnson, let me know by phone or any other form of reliable communication.

Have a fun and safe Spring Break, everybody.
