Why Anakin's visions are often negative...

Often when Anakin has visions, they are negative. A couple of them have positive, such as the one he had of him freeing the slaves, but quite a bit are bad. Two examples of these types of visions are when he had visions of Shmi getting tortured by the Tusken Raiders, and Padme dying in childbirth. Why is this? It's not neccessairly because Anakin ( Read more... )

Hmm, I'm not sure - the Dark Side is weakening, I think, in the original trilogy, and the visions we hear about there are nasty too: Yoda apparently sees Luke destroying the Rebellion, the Emperor sees Luke destroying him, Luke sees his friends being tortured. Maybe people just don't need to be warned of forthcoming happiness.

That's what I think, too. To be honest, I can't recall any tales of good visions. Anywhere.

Well..I can think of *a little* positive visions. There is the one where Anakin had a vision that he freed the slaves, and he also said in the TPM book that he and Padme were destined to be married someday. But besides those two, I can't think of any.

Yeah, there were those... :)

But I meant it outside of Star Wars. There aren't many tales of good visions out there. You don't need to know of happiness before it comes.

Oh, I see. That's pretty tragic, you know. And it makes sense. In fact, I think the Force mostly sent visions to Force users to simply warn them of bad possibilities in the future.

I'm beginning to wonder if the visions are definite, and you can't do anything to stop them, or if they are merely possibilities than you can actually try to prevent from happening...

Well, the Emperor apparently foresaw Luke destroying him (and presumably taking over the galaxy shortly thereafter), which obviously didn't happen. And Yoda does say the future is always in motion.
