I have always believed that the way to succeed in life is to pick a direction and start moving. Part of this is knowing when you need to stop and look around and make sure that you are moving in the correct direction. My general lack of income lately suggests that I may need to reevaluate my current path, or at least reprioritize some things.
It has become clear that my current milleu of jobs is not generating sufficient income to meet my needs. It is getting better, but still not what I would call good enough. This is partly because some things are not as profitable as I thought and partly because I am not spending time on the elements which are profitable. The two things that are currently doing the best are the distributor sales and the online game design. The distributor sales are slightly limited because there is a limited amount of funding which limits how long and how frequent of a trip I can take. The online game design is mostly unlimited except that I can only work on it for so long because it is so mentally intensive.
I have also decided to look into two additional fields. The first is that of substitute teaching. The idea of teaching has long interested me, but I have never actually wanted to be a full time teacher. The hours are long and the pay is low. However, as a substitute, I could try it in bite sized bits. I have worked with kids some, so I think I could do fairly well at it. The other is a 25-30 hour a week sales position with a local publication. The advantage to this one is that it has a base rate plus commission. While, in general, I like jobs that have no limits, at this point, I should really find something with a floor on earnings until I actually have some financial reserves.
The other aspects of my life are going just fine. The Store is doing great. Cooper and Coureton are doing a great job of keeping the schedule filled and planning events. Everyone else is being very helpful with running the Store and doing all the day to day stuff, and the customers are being helpful by bringing in enough money to keep the Store paying the bills.
Rocky is going quite well. Last night's show was a lot of fun, even though we were missing 8 cast members and had some excitement filling all the roles. The cast had a lot of fun, and I think that the audience shared in that fun.
Erin is wonderful, and I think that we have been making much good progress in our relationship. We tend to learn important things about each other then forget them then learn them again later. We'll try not to forget so much this time.
I have noticed a great deal of negativity in the air lately. A lot of people are sick, which might be part of it, but many people are just plain grumpy. There is not much open hostility, there is just a lot of irritated tones and snarky comments. I must say that I don't like it. I don't respond well to negativity in general, but if it is direct then at least I can face it head on. When it is just in the air, it is much harder to deal with. The worst part is that I think that the people who are being most negative do not even realize that they are doing it.
My homework assignment to all of you today is to try to find something positive to say to every person you meet over the next 24 hours. If you do this, there will be no time left for being negative.
jobs,
