Changmin woke up with a stiff neck upon warm sheets. As he slowly blinked the specks off the corner of his eyes, he sat up his bed and registered it was morning.
Jaejoong was sleeping to his right; the angel was sitting awkwardly on one of the kitchen chairs yet he looked perfectly comfortable.
Jaejoong was sleeping.
What was wrong with this fact?
‘Do vampires even sleep?’ the brunette wondered with curiosity. Based on all human facts, this sleeping factor was surely wrong. There was only one way to find out though: ask the vampire.
‘Like hell’ Changmin felt like snorting his thought. ‘How could I bring that up in a conversation?’
The angel appeared insanely still-Changmin was unsure if Jaejoong was breathing or not-and completely soothed. Was he having a nice dream? Do vampires dream? What was with all this fucking questions?!
Changmin suddenly hated his curiosity; it always got the better of him. Eventually it will kill him. “Curiosity killed the cat” was the famous saying and Changmin downright believed that. Junsu practically praised it.
The brunette stretched his right shoulder, wincing at the stiffness at his neck. Cautiously, he trailed his fingers over the two small punctures upon his skin. The memories were crystal clear from the night before. How could Changmin ever forget such a night despite the…unexpected ending?
Where was Yunho? The longing in Changmin’s heart could not be displaced. He suddenly wanted Yunho in his arms, confirming that he was real and alive and breathing (maybe he didn’t have too but oh well) and there with his love and care and kind dark eyes. Put simply, Changmin wanted to know Yunho was okay. After last night, he was most likely ripping innocent things to shreds and allowing the guilt to tear out his insides while the tore insides from said-innocent things. Changmin hoped it wasn’t a rabbit or a computer.
Where the hell were these thoughts coming from? How can curiosity do this do him? What the fuck is with all these questions?
“Minnie, you look like you are tearing your mind to shreds.”
Changmin was startled as he looked up to see Jaejoong’s wide, beautiful and definitely awake eyes staring back at him with simple curiosity.
Wow, how ironic…
“U-um,” Changmin began-thousands upon thousands of questions were swarming through his head, but thankfully he banished them and said, “I’m just thinking.”
Well, that was said well.
Jaejoong chuckled, music to Changmin’s ears. “I can see that, but can I suggest you stop? You seriously look like you are going to have a seizure before the first thought spills through your lips.”
“Can you read minds?” Changmin had to ask; Jaejoong was plenty accurate with his questions.
“No,” said the angel, his eyes filled with nothing but the truth. “Can pigs fly?”
“No. Do you have super powers?”
“No. Can cows climb trees?”
“No. Do vampires sleep?”
Jaejoong smiled. “Can bats hang upside-down?”
“Yes.”
“Then there you go.”
Changmin rubbed his tired eyes and grumbled, “What the hell are we talking about?”
The angel continued to smile as he got up only to sit down next to the brunette upon his bed. He reached up and brushed the bangs away from that young face and straightened the short hair into place. “We are not exactly talking Minnie, but merely asking questions.”
“I don’t like questions.”
“Then you don’t like answers.”
Changmin somewhat glared at his lover. “I don’t like riddles.”
Jaejoong’s smile turned downward into a grin. “Then you can’t find the real truth.”
He stared into those dark obsidian eyes. He loved those eyes, he loved that nose, that mouth, that forehead, cheeks, ears, and hair. He loved those hands, fingers, legs, feet, chest, neck…he love that entire being. He loved Jaejoong, the angel of his life.
“Are you really a vampire?” the brunette asked, his question a mere whisper. He felt those delicate, loved fingers caressing his cheek; those eyes never left his. The answer was waiting in those endless depths of black. They were sparkling with hints, truths and pure existence.
“Yes,” came the perfect answer in one syllable. Jaejoong’s expression was filled with sadness but a sense of pride. “I am what humans call a vampire.”
Changmin tilted his head into the other’s pale hand, his own expression filled with his damn curiosity and lust for knowledge. “You don’t call yourselves vampires?” he asked.
Jaejoong shrugged. “We go by the name of whatever names us. Even I do not know what I really am…I’m just…me.”
Odd answer. “How old are you?” the brunette inquired.
Again, Jaejoong shrugged. “I don’t remember.”
“Why don’t you remember?”
“I have no memories of my life before Yunho.”
“Before Yunho?” Changmin repeated as millions of thoughts flashed throughout his mind. Jaejoong could see that this answer would not suffice the curiosity that Shim Changmin had. For some reason, this amused the angel and he laughed, unable to stop from ruffling the youngest’s bangs a bit as the laughter fell off his lips. Changmin smiled at his lover playfully and took the hand away from his head so he could hold it upon his lap.
“Please,” he asked in a soft, caring yet curious voice. “Tell me more.”
Jaejoong looked fondly at his young lover. Those entrancing, deep brown eyes have forever stilled his heart. It was only he who could do this to him.
“Alright,” Jaejoong agreed. He faced Changmin and began. “My first memory was the day I met Yunho. Don’t ask me the date because I do not remember-I’m a failure at remembering dates. All I can tell you is that what I felt the single moment I laid eyes on Yunho. I felt like a door of emotion had been opened. Yunho was the one who opened up my heart and locked me inside his love and care. Every moment I spend by his side, I feel this moment all over again. I don’t think it will ever leave me.”
“It is difficult to explain, but I have no memories of how I was born or created, who my parents were and such. In all my years with Yunho, we have had rare encounters with those of our kind. We wanted to live a life away from them.”
“Why?” Changmin asked.
Again, Jaejoong’s expression was filled with sadness and grief. “Most of my kind kills for pleasure Minnie. They are ruthless creatures who hunt for game and enjoy torturing their victims before…killing them.”
Changmin couldn’t help but shiver. He felt the cold warmth of Jaejoong’s fingers and the apology shining against his dark eyes. “Are you sure you wish to know?” the angel asked.
The brunette squeezed Jaejoong’s hand and smiled for him. “I want to know everything about you Jaejoong,” he replied earnestly and adoration.
Reassured, Jaejoong continued. “After many years with Yunho, we ran into other vampires who we just called distant cousins. One cousin you are already know of, Yee Jung. We don’t like her.”
Changmin couldn’t help but huff. “That’s obvious.”
“She is dangerous Minnie,” Jaejoong spoke it firmly as if it were a warning. “I know you already know this, but I can’t help but express it more. She could kill you.”
“Jaejoong, I will never leave you or Yunho,” Changmin stated, honesty in his voice. “I could never do that to you. Not again.”
The last two words fell from his lips and Changmin did not know why. As if in shock himself, he reached up and touched his lips with the tips of his fingers. Jaejoong’s wide eyes were fixed on him. “What do you mean, Minnie?” the angel asked, alarm and was that…hope in his voice?
Confusion masked Changmin’s expression. “I…I don’t know…” he murmured as his thoughts and memories raced. “I just…said…” He stared at his lover and demanded, “Tell me more.”
Jaejoong immediately shook his head. “I’m not sure Minnie-”
“Please!” Changmin suddenly felt desperate for this information. He needed this information. Somehow, in the very ends of his mind, he had his own door to be unlocked and opened. There was something there that he needed and Jaejoong was holding one key.
Jaejoong looked very uneasy, an emotion that did not suit his angelic beauty and did not shine well in those dark eyes.
Somehow, Changmin knew the one question that could get him his answer. That door was not near the edge of his mind anymore. Jaejoong was holding the key plainly in front of his face
“When did you first meet me?”
That single question tore Jaejoong’s composure and dented his core. The angel pulled away from Changmin and turned away from his lover; he was unable to face him.
“Jaejoong,” Changmin whispered. He reached up and placed his hands on those delicate shoulders.
Jaejoong released a heavy breath and slumped back against his lover’s chest. Changmin gladly held the angel in his arms, kissing the top of his midnight hair and stroking the smooth skin underneath his white shirt. “I’m sorry,” the brunette whispered, his breath warm on Jaejoong’s ear. “I shouldn’t have ambushed you like that…”
“It’s alright,” the angel murmured, his musical voice soft and honest. “You have the right to know the answers you are looking for. But sadly…I do not have the right to give them to you.”
Changmin kissed the tip of Jaejoong’s ear and waited.
“The day I met you is not the day you know now…but the day you will know in the future.”
He couldn’t help but huff and groan. “More riddles?”
The life returned to the one in his arms and Jaejoong chuckled, “I am filled with more. Want another one?”
“You should know by now that riddles cannot help me. And no, I am quite not in the mood for more.”
Jaejoong turned his delicate body with ease so his hands were resting comfortably against Changmin’s bare chest and his pink lips hovered dangerously close to that of his lover’s. The kiss was sweet, reassuring and filled with a million apologies that neither of them could understand. But somehow…just apologizing for nothing made it all better.
Changmin loved the taste of strawberries.
Jaejoong pulled away and kissed the corner of Changmin’s mouth. “You were the most beautiful creature that ever walked the earth…I swear by anything holy, heavenly, pure and perfect that these words are true. Changmin, you were and still are the only essence of pure innocence in my life. This is what I felt the moment I laid eyes on you.”
Changmin blushed profusely, but surprisingly kept his eyes on the corner of Jaejoong’s face. “You speak as if I had died,” he murmured. The thought of death horrified him. Death meant losing Jaejoong and Yunho. Yee Jung’s face suddenly became dangerously horrifying to his eyes and fire was beyond menacing; he shivered instinctively, suddenly feeling alone and helpless.
Jaejoong was there though, with his gentle arms nestled around Changmin’s neck. Those dark eyes were on his face again and the small smile on his lips. “You are alive and as beautiful as ever Changmin,” he whispered, his voice purring with love and care. “Don’t you dare even think about dyeing your hair or cutting it shorter. Don’t change anything about you.”
Changmin grinned suddenly at the mood swing. “And what if I did?” he inquired.
“Then Yunho and I shall have you for breakfast.”
The brunette couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Right. Then I will be gone and you can’t marvel at my beauty anymore.”
“Your sudden infatuation with yourself can be short-lived.”
“Your sudden threatening attitude can just go away.”
Jaejoong’s smile was as radiant and blinding as ever. Changmin felt his heart melt and skin tingle. He pressed his mouth to Jaejoong’s, allowing his senses to drown in his lover’s sweet taste while his mind raced to comprehend all that he has learned. What did it all mean?
Screw the facts; Jaejoong was here, warm yet cold against his body. He could not imagine it any other way than that.
He enjoyed the fact that his vampire will always taste like strawberries though.
Honey sounded perfect at that moment too.

After a few hours lying in bed, Jaejoong got up reluctantly to cook breakfast while Changmin showered. When the brunette entered the kitchen clean and fresh, Junsu was sitting at the table with his red hair spiked up in many different directions. Feeling snarky, Changmin strolled up to ruffle his friend’s hair some more, earning a playful exclamation from the shorter of the two and a giggly smile.
“How is your hearing?” Changmin asked.
Junsu still appeared to be reading lips, but he could still answer. “The same as yesterday.” There was sadness and disappointment in his voice.
Jaejoong patted Junsu’s shoulder, gaining the redhead’s attention. “You don’t have to rush to recovery,” the angel assured him. “Take your time. We’ll be here.”
Junsu smiled and thanked both his friends. It was then he noticed one was missing. “Where is Yunho?” he asked.
Changmin looked to Jaejoong for the same answer. He was both worried and curious to know his lover’s whereabouts and whether he was in one piece, mentally and physically.
“I sent him back home,” Jaejoong replied, slowly so Junsu could understand. “He needs to…eat.”
The two humans needed nothing further to understand the real meaning of Jaejoong’s answer. The angel went back to cooking the eggs, leaving the brunette and redhead at the table. Changmin turned to Jaejoong though and asked, “Are you hungry too, Jae?”
The angel smiled reassuringly but there was no brilliant light shining this time. “A little, but not as bad as Yunho. I can wait until he returns before going out myself.”
This topic of feeding was definitely not one of Jaejoong’s strong suites. The angel obviously disliked the topic and his perfect figure was off-key. Changmin got up and wrapped his long arms around the delicate waste. Jaejoong melted into his embrace yet again. “Minnie,” he whispered. “I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not,” Changmin murmured, snuggling his nose into that black hair. “You need to feed, I can practically sense it.”
Jaejoong slowly stirred the eggs in the frying pan. “You’re always sharp…” he mumbled softly. Changmin didn’t hear him. “Go out,” he voiced instead.
Jaejoong shook his head firmly. “Not until Yunho returns. I can’t risk putting you two in danger.”
“We’ll be fine,” said Changmin. “She doesn’t know where we live.”
“She can easily track you here. I am not leaving and that’s final.”
Changmin easily sensed that his lover was not going to back down from his statement. Reluctantly, he pulled his arms away but didn’t move to sit down before kissing Jaejoong’s pale cheek. The angel turned to give Changmin a small smile before returning his attention to the frying pan.
During breakfast, Changmin decided it was best not to go to school for awhile, not until their current issue was solved. Junsu eventually understood what he meant-reading lips was proving to be straining on his mind but it was his only way of communication for now.
“What about work?” asked Jaejoong.
Changmin decided it was best to take a break from that too, despite the fact he and Junsu needed the money. Jaejoong gladly said he would aid the two in that problem. Both were hesitant, but had to agree.
In the end, Changmin phoned up his friend Tablo and asked him to cover for them the entire week.
“Please Tablo, it’s an emergency,” Changmin whined as he held the phone to his ear.
There was an obvious, displeased groan on the other end of the line. “An emergency that I can’t know about?”
“It is for your own good. Trust me.”
“I hate myself for even doing so.”
Changmin’s eyes narrowed and he somewhat hissed, “Friends should help other friends in their time of need.”
“That’s what normal friends would do for their other normal friends.”
“Then I’m glad you’re not normal!” the brunette exclaimed.
Another huff, this time of amusement.
“Whatever Min, I’ll do it.”
Changmin hung up the phone with a proud smirk written across his face.

Yunho did not return back to the house for four days.
After the second day, Changmin noticed the intense unease in his lover’s composure. “Jae,” he whispered as he looked into those dark eyes. Jaejoong was worrying his bottom lip and scratching the skin upon his thumbs.
“He should be back by now…”
“How long do your outings usually take?”
Jaejoong shook his head. “Not this long…” The angel brought his hand to cover his eyes as his body shook uncontrollably. “I should be there with him…”
By the third day, Jaejoong was a wreck. In his mind and heart he was debating on whether or not he should leave and go search for Yunho or stay and protect Changmin and Junsu. His young lover was urging him to go find Yunho for he was just as worried as Jaejoong, and yet he wasn’t because he could not fathom the events of vampire outings…what could happen or what to expect. He knew no consequences, no rules, no nothing.
“Go find him Jae, please,” Changmin begged, his hands gripping unusual shaking shoulders. His heart was aching with worry he could not even describe.
Junsu was there beside him, sharing the worry and heavy weight of the atmosphere. He stared at Jaejoong with wide, pleading eyes. His hearing had somewhat returned, but only faint sounds registered in his brain. He could hear voices but strained to hear them clearly.
“I can’t…” the angel whispered, his heart tearing with every second passing by. “I can’t leave you two…”
“Then take us with you,” Changmin said quickly.
Jaejoong immediately shook his head. “That’s even more dangerous!”
“It’s just as dangerous to sit here and do nothing when Yunho could be out in more danger than any of us could ever imagine!”
Jaejoong stared at his lover and friend’s pleading eyes. The worry for Yunho was dominate-the instinct to search out for his lover was snarling at him, demanding him to leave now and go find what he needed, what his heart and entire being desired. He needed to know Yunho was alive and safe and still his to hold, kiss and love. He could not lose him!
To say that Jaejoong was worried would be a serious understatement. To say that Changmin was in his right mind would be fucking idiotic. To say that Junsu was sane meant that you were a complete dumbass and needed to get a life.
By the fourth day, Jaejoong decided to take action despite the heavy, risky consequences that continuously weighed on his heart. Changmin and Junsu gladly piled up in his car and rode the impossibly far distance to East Gate, each of their minds filled with thoughts of Yunho, danger, and that single, menacing creature-Yee Jung.
