Well,
bearmum's plane is in the air, presumably with her inside it. I've spent the day hauling out untidy piles of cardboard, chasing the mighty herds of dust buffalo as they migrate through their ancestral grounds (the living room), and generally sweeping, mopping, washing, dusting and panicking.
Oh, yes. I know Mum doesn't care how clean my apartment is. It's the principle of the thing.
I've also acquired a number of maps (yesterday) and reviewed my index of Very Strange Things In Wisconsin to try and see what trouble we can get into. Of course, I now regret I haven't an index of Very Strange Things in Illinois, since one of the things we'll be attempting is a plunge south to visit
jauncourt and assorted fambly.
..And then, you know, we'll be very nearly halfway to Tennessee... *grin*
My common sense, which I haven't COMPLETELY managed to suppress despite years of diligent zaniness, keeps me from committing to a full twelve-hour pilgrimage, even though
ottergrrl and
waya are at the end of it. We'll see how the pair of us feel after the first drive, which is a pretty long stretch. (And on the accursed Illinois tollways,too...bleah!)
Joseph, as expected, is abstaining from the whole nonsensical adventure. His misanthropic tendencies mean he genuinely can't tolerate being around other people, and I 'spect the violent hugginess of New People would make him pretty white-eyed. Since Mum is (sic)"not entirely terrible, I guess", he's perfectly willing to have her around for a bit, but he's just as happy to sit at home and play video games and not be involved in the Getting Out And Meeting Other People part of the exercise.
At'sa fine. I've laid in supplies, so I'm not going to come home and find his emaciated remains next to the Playstation or anything.
I suppose folks would like a more historical update, but aside from the kitchen-invasion of a centipede roughly the size of a housecat a few weeks ago (and what an adorable centipede he was!), there really hasn't been much to report. Some good thunderstorms, appallingly dull work-fu, and very little else. Rather liked V for Vendetta, though I'm quite appalled they didn't release it in November, and Natalie Portman is still too damned pretty for Evey. Looking forward to Dead man's Chest, primarily because the trailer makes it look like Davey Jones and crew are rather severe cases of the Innsmouth Look. You know how much Lovecraftian references delight me.
Must go and change over Laundry. I shall endeavor to post regular updates during The Adventure, and possibly even get back into the habit of posting regularly. Stranger things have happened...
