Finlay's First Story

Jul 25, 2010 22:55

just so i remember what happened tonight at bedtime...

Finlay: Why do you tell me stories?

Mama: Because I love you.

Finlay: And Daddy tells me stories. [pause] Why does Daddy tell me stories?

Mama: Because he loves you.

Finlay: I'm gonna tell you a story.

Mama: Okay.

Finlay: Once upon a time... [laughter] ... there was a goose named Finlay. [laughter] ... And a mama goose. And a daddy goose. And a little baby goose. And they had orange beaks. But they were white. With orange beaks. And they went to the forest and they found an airplane. And they found Grandma. And Grandpa. And Papa.

Mama: Who is Papa?

Finlay: Grandpa. Grandpa and Papa. He has both names. And they are goose. They are all gooses. And they found an airplane. And the airplane wasn't broken. It was fixed. [laughter]

Mama: What did they do with the airplane?

Finlay: They drived it. Daddy drived it. And they didn't crash. And they found an astronaut. And two cats. The cats were kitties. That's the end of the story.

Mama: That's a great story, Finlay. I'm very proud of you.

Finlay: Say, I'm so proud of you, Finlay, for your great story.

Mama: I'm so proud of you, Finlay, for your great story. You are a wonderful storyteller. Maybe some day, when you grow up, you will write books.

Finlay: What kind of books?

Mama: A book about geese, and an airplane, and a kitty cat, and an astronaut.

Finlay: No, TWO kitty cats.

Mama: Two kitty cats.

Finlay: A colouring book.

Mama: Yes, a colouring book.

Finlay: I wanna tell you another story. Once upon a time, there was an alligator. [laughter]

Mama: What colour was the alligator?

Finlay: Green. A green alligator. And it was a big alligator. And it was a strong alligator. [pause] What did the alligator do?

--end of Finlay's story, transition into Mama's story--

And by the way, Jasper took his first steps at 13 months old on Tuesday the 13th. He's just been taking a few steps here and there since then. Today (25th) he walked a few feet before falling down.
