If that's the last one in the series: no. I read the third one because I'd enjoyed the first two when I was 18. Reading the third was like pulling teeth though and I finally felt like I understood what the people who bitched about it were getting at. So I have no intentions of reading the last one or anymore of Paolini's books.
If you read YA I could suggest books though. haha.
Graceling by Kristin Cashore I'm sure Hunger Games has been suggested to you. any and all of Tamora Pierce's books set in the Tortall universe(I can't speak for her circle series as I've never read it) Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series Holly Black's modern faery tales(starting with Tithe) The Alchemyst my Michael Scott and if you like zombies(even if you don't!) The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
And I wouldn't dream of suggesting Twilight. I actually spent a lot of time trying to dissuade people from buying that series for their kids. I've actually got a Goodreads over here if you're interested: http://www.goodreads.com/theanie I only started using it recently. I'm also just about smack dab in the middle of Maggie Stiefvater's Scorpio Races.... now that's an awesome book.
Thanks a lot! I will check all your tips (and the link) out (if not for myself, then for GF).
As for Paolini: I read the first book of the Inheritance series on a plane - a long time ago. Not too bad (no other book available). Second book we bought because of the first. Not that great. Third I bought because I was curious. By then, I had read enough "fantasy" books to realize that his stuff wasn't that original. Fourth: Reading it now. I am still struggling with it. Just want to see how the story ends.
I think Robert Jordan and George RR. Martin are better writers!
Like I said, when I was a teenager I enjoyed Eragon. It was only as I got older that I understood what a terrible writer he really was. People who read more fantasy than me have said he basically knocks everything off from other fantasy authors(not just Tolkien)
I have no intentions of ever reading Jordan or Martin. >< Martin I've been told makes you fall in love with a character and subsequently kills them. I forget what my qualms with Jordan were. He's apparently more palatable than Martin though, and because Sanderson is continuing his series he may have a chance with me. I really enjoyed the Mistborn series.
The "Wheel of Time" (Jordan/Sanderson) series is brilliant. You should give it a try. It's not like the Martin books at all. Martin based his stuff on the War of the Roses, and yes, you are right, he kills off favorite characters in a flash. With Jordan/Sanderson, you get a series that totally satisfies - at least, it satisfied us. It's a good plot - and the writing is good. Paolini pales in comparison.
Defense of George RR. Martin: he does not kill off all his characters. It LOOKS like it - but then they return.
As for Jordan: I think the "Wheel of Time" series is the best I have ever read so far - as for a fantasy series.
I got a box set of the first four for under $1, so I figured I'd give a shot. Most of what I read is YA, but I do stumble into the adult world on occasion.
