Duo Steakhouse

Uncle Lito always treats me to dinner whenever I come back to Manila, so the very day I arrived, he already called to ask me where I wanted to go. I love coming back here, haha!

We decided to go somewhere in Serendra and he said that Duo might be a good choice. When I asked what kind of restaurant it was, he said it was Le Souffle-like, so i was really excited! The place was already full when we got there. Even the tables outside were packed. (The exterior pic was taken after dinner.)

The interior was very nice. It's not very big, but it has that old-Manila kind of feel to it. i think it's mostly because of the various paintings on the well. There was one that I kept staring at all night, thinking how great it would look in my room.

There were 8 of us at dinner, but I didn't take a picture of everyone's dishes. I didn't want to hold up everyone's meal, haha. The lighting was a bit dim, so I'm warning you now that the picture are a bit blurry and have been photoshopped to look lighter. I don't think it worked that well, but the riginal dark photos are gone! :) My mom and dad split a Duo Special Salad, which is organic mesclun salad with your choice of dressing and toppings. I had a bite and it was goood.

They also chose 2 main courses and asked the server to just split everything in two for them. Each plate had the Lapu Lapu Prosciutto in saffron-ginger sauce with mushroom risotto and Sauteed Prawns and Scallops in saffron sauce with arugula and asparagus risotto. I had a whole scallop and it was absolutely wonderful! Sweet and tender and perfectly seared. The risotto was also nice and creamy.

Instead of being like Le Souffle, Duo is actually a steakhouse, so I decided to order the Surf and Turf - combination of blackened top blade steak (medium rare or course) and grilled spiced prawns with Cafe de Paris butter, salad, and roasted potatoes. The serving size was just right for me. I was able to finish the dish feeling just satisfied and not bloated from eating too much. I only have two minor quibbles: the menu said spiced prawnS with an "s", and i only got one prawn, haha, and it also said roasted potatoes and I got fries. Salty fries, at that. but since everything was so good, I'm still a happy camper. :)

Of course we couldn't leave without dessert! I ordered the Pannacotta with Mango Vichyssoise and was surprised at how huge it was! Okay, maybe the pannacotta was regular-sized, but it was swimming in the mango sauce! I thought the sauce could have been a tad more tart, but i don't really have any complaints.

There was an interesting dessert on their menu simply listed as Duo Surprise. When I asked what it was (before I ordered my dessert), the server said that its a light cheesecake that's bruleed on top. I passed but my parents decided they wanted to try it. bruleeing the top of a cheesecake is an interesting idea that i think would have worked better if the cheesecake was not a light version. I didn't like the texture of the cheesecake because it was a bit grainy.

After dinner (thanks, Uncle Lito!) we all walked around Serendra for a bit to see what the place was like.  On a Friday night, it was teeming with people, so I just made plans to come back another time.  After all, there's still that cupcake place to try.  And the thai place.  And a bunch of other places before I leave.  So many places to try, so little time!
