History:
Hotaru was born to Souichi and Keiko Tomoe. Souichi was a brilliant genetic scientist and famous in his community. He had a lovely wife, a beautiful daughter and things seemed to go right for them. Hotaru still has memories of her life as a child with her father and mother. One day, an explosion in the laboratory took the lives of both Hotaru and her mother. Desperate, Souichi struck a deal with the beings from the Tau Star System to bring his daughter back to life. In doing so, he had let an evil entity enter his life and his daughter's life. In this new half life, Hotaru became a very sickly and meek girl, growing up in isolation with her father. Her seizures and fainting spells from physical exertions were the reasons why Soichi and his assistant Kaori kept her away from the outside world. In her time alone, she learned that she could heal things.
Eventually, she befriends a quirky little girl named Chibiusa. The two quickly became friends and Chibiusa gave Hotaru an excuse to spend more time away from home and expanded her circle of friends to include Usagi and her friends as well. Things seemed to be going well again for Hotaru as she began to grow more social. The seizures stay, however, and made a few of Usagi's friend (namely Haruka and Michiru) highly suspicious of her. For during these seizures, Hotaru had displayed great and terrifying power. Haruka and Michiru, along with Setsuna, suspect that it is only the beginning of the awakening of the Soldier of Ruin: Sailor Saturn. After an episode in the planetarium, the sign of Saturn appears on her forehead and the girl disappears.
The entity that saved her life grew stronger and stronger each day, but required heart crystals in order to fully awaken. Chibiusa, concerned for her friend, dropped by the Tomoe House. There, she was kidnapped and her heart crystal was taken by the being that resided within Hotaru: Mistress 9.
Mistress 9 tamped down Hotaru's spirit as she began to open the gateway between the Tau Star System and Earth for Master Pharaoh 90 to go through. Hotaru's spirit all but disappeared when she didn't believe she was strong enough to save anyone. But memories of her life with her father...her friend Chibiusa gave her the strength to conquer Mistress 9 and fully awaken the sleeping Sailor Saturn. She returned the heart crystal to Chibiusa and went to face off Pharaoh 90. She held the power to destroy worlds, only she alone could destroy the being. Sailor Moon wouldn't have any of this and drew upon the power of all the senshi in order to join the Soldier of Silence in battle. She explained to Sailor Moon that once her power of destruction was activated, she too will be destroyed. But since she was not alone in this final battle, Hotaru was born again...as a baby in a battle scarred Sailor Moon's arms.
For a brief time, she was returned to her amnesiac father. But Setsuna arrived to whisk the baby away, sensing that her powers would be needed soon. The girl aged rapidly, already going from baby to age four after a battle and powering up Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. It is from this age, she lived happily with the Outers as a family unit. Life was idyllic.
But their life together wouldn't last long. Trouble was brewing on the horizon and Hotaru began to show abilities beyond her years, such as recreating the big bang that began the universe. The child began to hear voices and finally, the spirit of Sailor Saturn appeared to her, reawakening her memories of her previous lives. It was time to take up arms and fight once more.
Personality:
Hotaru is a quiet, soft spoken girl who was very shy and withdrawn due to the nature of her illnesses. When she was reborn again, she was a very curious, carefree girl. After regaining her memories of what happened when she was possessed by Mistress 9, the Silver Millennium, she had become a combination of the two. With the positive upbringing of Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna, Hotaru has gained a second chance at having a family and had become a much more well rounded person since both Michiru and Haruka had access to the finer things in life. However, she still retains some of that reservedness from when she was sheltered. Though now, her quiet nature is due to the fact that she lived and recalled more lifetimes than most people can even fathom and because of her ability to be able to destroy the entirety of existence in one fell swoop. Not all of her is somber. She still is a curious and bubbly girl and far more outgoing than she was before because Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna prefer that she is outside with friends rather than at home all the time.
She is fiercely loyal to her friends, willing to end the world (literally) to make sure that they were safe. Her closest friendship, to date, remains with Chibiusa. Not only because of their close proximity in age but because of their shared history and pasts. Both have had a touch of the dark side in their lives and have come out better people and Chibiusa really was the first friend Hotaru had ever made. She cherishes that connection more than anything else.
She is a dedicated soldier in which she protects her fellow senshi. Her power is completely destructive so she uses it as a last ditch effort whenever things look particularly bleak. She makes sure that it is absolutely the last choice before using her world ending power. Other than that, she has a defensive attack: Silent Wall. It was a powerful barrier that does not require a spoken phrase.

Mou...today's weather is so gloomy. It rained all day. Chibiusa is here though, so it isn't so bad. We're working on our math homework together. It's hard to do it just on our own. I like it when Chibiusa is here. Then Michiru-mama or Setsuna-mama would have cookies and tea for us. And we don't need to be off and fighting youma. It's a thunderstorm and that scares Chibiusa a lot so I brought down a blanket from my room and we both huddled under it. I told her that it's all right, that the thunder wouldn't be able to get us here because we have my strong Haruka-papa and Michiru-mama and Setsuna-mama to protect us too. She seemed to like that because we both were giggling so much.
I like moments like these. When things are quiet and we could just be ourselves, not just senshi to defend the world. My classmates at school think I am just a friendly girl and I am. I like being friendly. I like having friends this time around. But there is a darkness inside of me they don't know about. I am afraid of them ever knowing about it. Even as a senshi, my power is something the others are a bit afraid of. Chibiusa says my powers are nothing to be afraid of. That they are what makes me special and that it's my heart that shines through the most. She makes everyone feel as if they were the most special person in the world. But I suppose everyone says that about their best friends.

The movie was still going. Casablanca. But the end was in sight and the credits would be soon. Hotaru sleepily rubbed her eyes and peeked out of the blanket. She was snuggled next to Setsuna-mama. Her garnet eyes were closed and she was holding onto Hotaru like a warm, living blanket. Michiru-mama and Haruka papa were snuggled into each other as well. Hotaru smiled. She dreamed that one day she would find love like Haruka-papa and Michiru-mama. They told her once that they felt that something was missing for them. But Setsuna-mama had told her that sometimes, being alone isn't always a bad thing. That she had guarded the Gate of Time for centuries. Hotaru couldn't do that; be so alone for so long. She remembered being alone back in the Silver Millennium.
She closed her eyes and breathed in the smell of her home. Everything was quiet. There was no need for them to suddenly spring off to fight, not yet. They weren't needed to be powerful protectors just yet. For right now, they could just be a family, and that's far more than anything Hotaru could ever hope for.
