Zoe costume
Two of my friends (Matt and Jen) and I have decided to go Firefly this year at Dragon*Con. Matt's going to be Mal Reynolds, Jen's going to be Kaylee and I'm going to be Zoe during the day and Inara for the Shindig. I've got almost my entire Zoe costume completed and I wanted to post photos of it, cause I'm pretty damn proud of the thing. :-)
My Zoe hair. I have totally stick straight, very fine hair and I was sure I would have to get a wig for this costume, which I totally didn't want to do. One of my coworkers (who has hair just like mine) said she used to do pin curls to get crazy curly hair. So I tried it. I slept in them, so they'd be good and dry by the next day and sure enough, when I took out the pins, I had crazy curly hair, as you can see here:
Here's the costume without the Browncoat. The top, vest and gunbelt were purchased from someone selling their Zoe costume on this comm. She actually sold me the whole costume, but the trousers weren't what I was looking for (and a very, very small 16). The gunbelt alone was totally worth the money I spent, it's so cool.
The boots were the hardest part of the costume to find. This is because I have abnormally muscular calves. I found these at Roamann's. They're supposedly made for wide calves, but even then they just barely let me tuck my trouser legs in and get them zipped up.
And here I am with the Browncoat. I know it's not totally accurate, because my Big Damn Coat is a replica of Mal's coat, but Zoe does wear a long brown coat at one point in the series, so I'm just going with it. Plus, it looks damn good.
