I'm glad you liked the humour too. I tried to stick it in whenever I could because, fricking hell this was a bleak story to write. I wanted to make the entire story a little less painful to read without taking away from what was happening, so I'm very happy it worked for you.

And yes. Tom and the security guard. I...I knew I was writing something truly terrible when I had to go back and rewrite a scene multiple times to make the kidnapping pedophile more humane. Like what? Why is that even an issue?

But to answer your question, when I was plotting the story out, he was going to be someone Tom was going to present as an officer specifically to make Blaine afraid of going for help, but when I tried to write it out that way I couldn't go through with it. Tom is unfortunately based on a real people who did things worse than anything I have in this story, but I still couldn't write something that dark, for poor Blaine's sake if nothing else. It was just too much, you know? Plus I didn't want Tom to be this diabolical puppet master who has the ability to set up specific PTSD triggers in a kid for almost a decade. I didn't like the idea of making him that powerful, so I downgraded it to exactly what's in the fic: Tom is a creeper who knows other creepers and set up a one-time arrangement to pay off a debt before he completely lost control of the situation.
