and if it had been Maggie Smith, that would have REALLY been something

I'm missing all the good customers/passers by at my new job. I've missed my sister, I've missed Jaee (who very graciously told whoever was working at the time to ask me about tombstones. So you know it's only a matter of time before I'll be swearing up a storm in the middle of the kid's department). Last night, though, I missed the coolest customer yet. The kind of customer you can only get when you're located in the middle of a downtown core.

Let's start with a little re-enactment of a phone call, shall we? The players are shift-worker Melissa and Designated Bookseller (the person you call whenever anything problematic is going on) Kelly.

MELISSA: "Um, Kelly? There's a lady down here looking for Harry Potter."
KELLY: "Yeah, and you're the kid's department. Shouldn't you be used to that by now?"
MELISSA: "No, I don't think you understand. There is a lady. Down here. Looking for Harry Potter. Harry Potter."

Yep. A lady came into the store last night, dressed in robe and hat, looking for Harry Potter. Apparently HP had been illegally practising underage magic again, and Professor McGonagall (did I mention it was Professor McGonagall?) was trying to track the Boy Who Lived down before the Ministry of Magic got a hold of him. And apparently she was dead serious. Or extremely fluent in Crazy. I would have been tempted to ask for her autograph, myself.

work, harry potter
