Happy Birthday, big brother.

Jul 09, 2007 21:28

I was going to post an actual update, but decided to do this instead.

My brother, Sean M. Forbes, would have been 37 today. Today is the first time in a long time that I have not called my brother on his birthday. Tomorrow will be the first time in a long time that my brother has not called me on my birthday.

It's really hard to forget your brother's birthday when it is the day before yours. He surely could never forget mine; hell I even crashed his 13th birthday party. Some sister, huh?

When he died last October, all I could think about at the time was losing him. Not long after, I realized that there would be a time that would be just as hard...the time of our birthdays this year. My brother and I had not celebrated our birthdays together in a long time, but last year I was working on his birthday and sent him a text message that is the title of this post. He called me and we talked, and he agreed to come out and hang with me and my friends on my birthday. The next day, he sent me a text message wishing me a happy birthday and came out with one of his friends to celebrate. He bought me a beer and we hung out and talked for a bit.

Late in the summer, we made plans to have lunch, but he was out of town on business frequently. We finally got in touch and made plans to have lunch on October 6th.

My brother Sean passed away on October 5th, of cardiac rupture due to a massive heart attack.

He had no history, no risk factors (that we knew about).

My big brother Sean was always there for me. He was an excellent role model, and I always knew I could count on him. He made a huge difference in the company he worked for (Games Workshop) and they say the company would not be where it is today if it weren't for his work. They even dedicated a training room at the headquarters in Glen Burnie for him. I'm so proud to have had him as my brother.

So this birthday will not be the happiest for me. I worked today to try to keep my mind off things. I'll be working tomorrow, and then in class.

People wonder why I don't want to celebrate my birthday this year. I just don't feel like it.

Happy Birthday wishes are welcome, of course, but I won't be having a party or anything like that.

Just so you all know what is going on, or rather, what is not going on, for my birthday. I'll be working, and maybe resting a bit after class.

That's all. Take care, folks.
