Survived the "always onstage" weekend

This morning's service went better than expected. I still haven't ironed out the transition from guided meditation to finishing off the service, but whatever. People responded well, including the one person I had expected to be deeply offended. (Said person often leaves me wondering why he comes to a UU church at all, as his beliefs seem pretty fundamentalist Christian.)

Someone else stepped into the Worship Committee Chairperson job. Thank all the Gods and Goddesses that be. I had *no* desire to do it again, because I was just certain it would end up getting done half-assed at best, with my overcommitted schedule. The person who took it used to be the president of the board of management, and definitely has her shit together, so I'm thinking it will go well. No clue what happened to the guy who had been chair this year, other than no one has seen him since October and then he up and quit, plus left last Sunday with a gaping hole that had to be filled at the very last minute.

Tonight's performance was very different than anything we've done before. It was a small Christmas party at a bed 'n' breakfast. The space was both cool and weird. It was cool because there's a staircase leading down into the livingroom area, which made for a nice entrance and exit. However, it was weird for the same reason, because we then had to try and dance around the blasted stairs. Only three could dance at a time, which worked out ok. The guests were seated in a horseshoe shape, so one of us faced each of the three directions for most of the time. There's this one song, though, where we usually go into a circular formation that ... well, we tried to dance in an ovalish shape around the stairs, but that was pretty awkward.

The closing number was Jingle Bell Rock, which I had just made a bunch of mistakes with last night, and didn't dare do it again until I've straightened those cues out, so Marie ended up doing it solo. Turns out that was the best option, really. We'd have been knocking into each other and that staircase otherwise, I think, and not having to worry about "matching" other dancers gave her the freedom to improvise as needed in order to a)deal with the space and b)interact visually with all the guests.

Between last night's performance, this morning's service, and then tonight's performance, I really do feel like I've been onstage one way or another all weekend. Unwinding now with a glass of port and playing Neopets.

Tomorrow I relax and play with all the fun roving I picked up at Yankee Fiber Friends yesterday morning. I got some natural white and natural brown Corriedale wool, which up until now I've only been working with Romney. I also got some dyed mohair, and mohair-wool blend, which I think the wool in that is Romney, but I'm not positive. Someone brought small sample skeins of a bunch of different fibers she has spun this past month, and I now know that I *have* to try soy silk. Cornsilk sounds very challenging, but that felt nice, too, when someone brought some in back in October.

Who, me? Too many hobbies? Just bellydance, spinning, temari balls, cross stitch, reading, and the computer. Really, that's not so much, right? Oh, and candlemaking, and soapmaking, and ... and ... and ... LOL
