Random babble

Yesterday was graduation. Yes, I graduated in December, but we only had the pinning ceremony then. This was the cap-and-gown deal. Due to having used up all my pool time (mostly on just getting through school in the first place without collapsing from exhaustion, but most recently brought the total down to near-zero by going to Aeternitas), I took ( Read more... )

Consider applying at home care agencies, blood bank, community living/ adult day care- if you have them- for people with dementia etc. Insurance firms need RN's to do insurance screenings. I did that sort of work for a few years. Private schools often have an RN on staff. Are there any nursing staffing agencies in your area?

Congrats

Alas, every one of those categories fall under the "minimum 1 year experience" thing, and several want 3-5. :-( The only places that seem to be taking new grads at all, outside of the very small hospital nurse-resident programs, are nursing homes, and not many of them either.

Thanks, though. I know something will turn up eventually.

Considering your work at what sounds like a residential setting for mental health patients, I think you could write to many agencies - in your cover letter- stress your prior related experience. As I recall meds were involved.

Yes, that may actually be what I try next. Though I'd really rather hone my assessment skills in a less autonomous setting first, which I gather is the reason they want hospital or SNF experience.

>>No, seriously, it would seem like a reasonably intriguing premise if there hadn't just been a blockbuster movie

To be fair, Avatar was a few years ago now, and the concept didn't begin with that movie.

>>it really does seem like the "men have more compassion than women" theme is getting beaten to death

I didn't get that from the episode at all. How did you come to that conclusion, out of curiosity?

True, but it still felt weirdly deja vu-y.

Rory, the Doctor, and at least one of the male humans are more open to viewing the Gangers as sentient beings who can be reasoned with and deserve some compassion. Amy and the lead human female of the work crew, on the other hand, are the ones who seem most determined to keep things antagonistic. A similar dichotomy was set up last series in the episodes with the Silurians: the males were willing to negotiate, but the females were the ones who insisted on violence. I didn't get as distraught over last year's, because as I say, I found it actually rather pleasantly subversive. But doing it again? Yeah, that's a bit annoying.

The doppleganger of the boss lady was against war, though, so I don't think that's a statement about females.

There are two more who episodes before the break. We get the second half of this episode (which I liked, actually, partially for the retro who feel and partly because it kind of made all of the viewers as faceblind as I am, unable to tell people apart) and then the first part of the Moffat two parter, called A Good Man Goes to War.

Which is a very suspicious title, considering River said she was in prison for killing a good man. But the episode called The Doctor's Wife turned out to be about something very different than we all thought.

I did like the retro feel, definitely. Interesting that we're revisiting the 22nd century solar flares, too. Evokes The Ark In Space as well as The Beast Below. Good point about the face-blindness. I hadn't thought of it that way.

True. My mantra this season is "anything that seems like it makes sense obviously means something else entirely."

Oh, I hadn't thought of that with the solar flares! Neat!

Apparently there is a theory going around that this is how the autons got started. Which makes Rory's friendship with one of the Ganger Jennifers more interesting.

I'm glad you had your ceremony, Snape!poohbah and all!

And I'll keep my fingers crossed for the writers' group being fruitful.
