So the 4th, aka Independence Day aka firefly's brother's birthday, went off with minimal drama. Yay!
Yesterday was supposed to be the Healing Festival for Apollo and Pan at
HTAZP, but then my car broke down, and it seemed I was the only one going to be there anyway, so it may be rescheduled.
I had already surrendered to the fact the clutch was, in fact, going. I'd scheduled it to be done tomorrow. Patsfan was less sure it was worth putting the money into a 9yo Chevy with nearly150k miles on it, so my plan was to see if it would pass emissions first, which I'd have been doing this morning. If not, and the expenses associated to get it to pass plus the clutch work exceeded $1k, then I'd go car shopping instead. Well, the clutch died (or so I presume, considering the sudden "you are in neutral and can't get out" thing), the brakes had started making noise, and I ended up getting the thing towed to my usual repair place. They're working up a total for me. I'm expecting it to be above $1k, so already thinking about new-to-me car options. Not about to finance something new. Got to be something used I can buy outright, preferably a Toyota. Because I'd probably still be driving my old Toyota if I hadn't smashed it up in 2000. They just keep going, so that's definitely my preference for used cars. Toss up between Toyota and Subaru for new, but again, that's really just not an option until school's done.
Fortunately, Patsfan is off today, so I can use his car to deal with tutoring and work. Tomorrow and Wednesday are my "weekend," which will undoubtedly be spent dealing with getting myself independently mobile again. Can I just reiterate how very much I hate living in an area with such piss-poor public transportation? *misses the T* That's one of the few things I actively dislike about living here.
Writing is still going fairly well. Shug's
5_for_five challenge comm has helped a lot. It's often after managing that first 500 words that things really start flowing, so having the nudge to get at least that much done is great. C&A2 fic is nearly ready to be submitted. Thank the Gods for extensions. Then I need to catch up birthday ficlets and get cranking on
summer_of_giles.
Also, I'm now modding the
bujold_fic annual fest. Generally, it's a ficathon, though I tried to nudge for art and other fanworks as well. As I've no intention of making myself crazier, it's in the same laid-back style
sahiya used last year rather than an exchange. Prompt, claim, and post on either the day that fits your fic/other or on the free-for-all day at the end. No chasing people down and hopefully minimal headaches. Lotsa cool prompts coming in. I think I even see one I may jump at.
Time to get ready to go tutor. TGIM!
