Cons

Last Saturday I was out with a friend and we ended up conversing about our "juvenile" interests. Well, the juvenile comment came when she was debating endlessly about which game system to get herself as a graduation present. (Nintendo DS won out over Wii.) To that comment I replied, "We spent the last 45 minutes before we came in here talking about how I make up stories based on a children's series. How's about neither one of us calls ourselves juvenile or mocks our hobbies, k?"

A chunk of that 45 min included me going on about how I wished I could make it to Phoenix Rising. So when I mentioned that bunches of people seem to be going to Portus next year, she laid on the peer pressure that obviously I have to go. That I'll be in the midst of Microbiology is not to be considered an obstacle, after all I went to the Near and Middle Eastern Dance Symposium while taking Chem last summer, right? Except it was my fourth go-round with a survey of chem course, second at the college level. Not that it wasn't still challenging. I nicknamed my prof Snape for a reason, and it had nothing to do with his voice or finding him attractive (::shudder::). But the subject matter was mostly review. Micro won't be.

Of course, Micro doesn't *have* to be done before I start my nursing courses. It just has to be taken before I finish them. And if I'm sane, it should not be taken alongside them. That means Summer 2009 is also an option.

There's also Terminus, which would be after Micro would be done, assuming summer scheduling remains consistent. I haven't seen as many people mention that one, though.

And now I learn there's Prophecy. Which is this August. And in Toronto, which is closer than either Dallas or Chicago. (At least I think it's closer than Chicago. That might just be a psychological thing due to the fact I've been to Ontario before but not Illinois.) But I haven't seen much on my f-list about it (hence the not finding out about it until now). Is anybody going? Because I'm less about the con-going per se than I am about the meet-ups with fellow ficcers.

There are a couple of communities that were set up to try and organize said meetups: portus_sshg and terminus_sshg. I'm watching them both in hopes I'll make it to one or the other. If there are any for HG/RL or HG/LM shippers, I'd be interested in those as well, though I know fewer folks in those ships. In fact, the ones I do know are also HG/SS shippers anyway. Heh. Sectus is, sadly, out of the question. If I'd been aware of it earlier (and if Gary Moore were performing at the Royal Albert around the same time or some other inducement that would tempt Patsfan), I'd have loved to go. But as taking off solo across the Atlantic on the weekend of our twelfth anniversary seems a little, er, not quite right, not to mention more than I can really afford, that's another I'll have to enjoy vicariously.

But Prophecy is a possibility for this year. So, anybody going?
