So on the 10th, the word count was 134,530. I've been meaning to do intermediate word counts, but have failed to remember. I haven't done anywhere near as much "new" writing in the past week as usual, partly due to the rewrites, and partly due to just trying to figure out how to get to the next major chunk of plot and what bits of character development need to happen along the way.
As of right this second, the word count is 137,069.
I don't know why I care, except that the numbers tell me in something resembling a concrete fashion that I'm moving forward.
I think I'm somewhat deliberately slowing down because I know it's getting close to the end, too. There's three, maybe four chapters left to wrap this up, as I see it right now*, and I don't want it to be done. But yet I do. Yeah, I know. Weird.
*Given some of the curve-balls these characters have thrown me so far, though, I could be wrong. I mean, one character insisted on getting written out entirely, a minor scene now takes up two chapters plus outtakes and involves a major revelation, bit characters that I thought were making a one-time appearance are showing back up, and others that I intended to do more with are saying "No thanks, that was a cameo." So I could totally be wrong about how long it will take to wrap this up. The one thing that is relatively certain is that it will not be wrapped up by the time classes start on Monday.
