So Patsfan and I had dinner with both our parents Wednesday evening. And it actually went well! No bizarre misunderstandings, no innocent comments taken as serious insults, neither Patsfan nor I put in the position of refereeing the parents. It's really nothing short of miraculous.
It was particularly good to see my Dad. He was more reserved than usual, and a bit unsteady on his feet. But besides that he seemed *so* much better than he was before they put the pacemaker in. I would like to shove his GP's head in a toilet and flush, though. (The one who said he was as good as any cardiologist, refused to write a referral to one, and then neglected to even listen to Dad's heart.) My Dad told him he's still having some dizziness. He's had inner ear issues for ... well for most of my life, anyway, and I get the impression for most of his. But they had been cleared up for awhile, and all the followup he's getting with his cardiologist suggests there's not any connection to his heart. What does his GP say? "You told me that last time." And then does nothing. I suggested to Dad that he bring it up again, and when GP-from-Hell gives that response, he should say something like, "Yes, but you still haven't done anything about it, so I'm reminding you."
I do wish he'd just get another GP, but my Mom thinks the problems are all in Dad's head, and thinks this doctor is "the only reason he's even alive right now." Which is a load of bull -- Dad had to be staggering around barely able to stand before someone tested his blood sugar and found out he had totally out of control diabetes, something that his GP should damn well have caught during a routine exam.
But anyway, all that is out of my hands, and I'm just glad to have seen him and that he seems to be doing relatively well.
