Simultaneously insulted and flattered

I went to Yankee Fiber Friends* today. First time I've managed to make it since December. It was good to be back. I signed up to help at the booth for a couple of hours at the Brooklyn Fair next month. I'm nowhere near ready to be part of the sheep-to-shawl thing or anything, but I can mind the booth while others take lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, whatever.

ANYway, I was chitchatting with another member who joined about the same time I did last year. She couldn't quite place me, until she asked where I worked. That set off a lightbulb. So then she asks, "Oh, you were pregnant, last time you were here, right?" Um, no. There was someone who was very pregnant, but that wasn't me. However, she made it very clear it was me she was thinking of, when she said the name of my town, as that had been something we talked about a lot before (we're the only two from my town).

Nope, wasn't pregnant. Then or ever. But you know what, if I look that much thinner around the middle now, and Marie was just saying the other day that you can really tell I've been cranking on ab work for bellydance, I guess I'll take that as a compliment on the present me, and worry less about the insult to December 2004 me. My answer was more like, "Nope, I wasn't pregnant, I just weighed more." Which actually isn't true. If the scale I stepped on two weeks ago is remotely accurate, I'm at an all-time high for weight, and about 20 pounds heavier than I was in December. (Considering my clothes still all fit, I'm thinking either that scale was very wrong or it really is all about the muscle versus fat density thing.) However, I wasn't about to drag the conversation out any more by getting into a discussion of the relative weight of muscle versus fat.

*OK, they don't have their own website, but they're listed with other spinners' guilds and such on that page. Wow, you can tell how long it's been since I was there. I should be saying "we don't have our own website," etc.

yff, spinning, weight
