Went home for my dad’s birthday on Tuesday night (after the sushi lunch surprise)…the trip down was surprisingly quick, thanks to a mapquest tip and it was a lot of fun..

Cassie & I split more sushi for dinner, disgusted our grandparents and I told the fam about the horrible speeding ticket debacle.

My dad had told me that he would let me borrow $700 to pay for one of the classes and after dinner on Tuesday he told me that he would pick one of the classes, and if I got an A in that class, I could keep the money and not pay him back. (At which point Cassie came out with “You’re fucking kidding me.”)

That was an amazing gesture and it’s really a great motivator to work really hard….Dad picked the online Fitzgerald and Hemingway course with the stipulation that he gets to read my papers..personally I think that because of my literature course history, this will be the easier class but hey, he chose….

I’m psyched to start the classes…I’m not so psyched about the GRE General Test math sections..I’m still studying. I’m still in the Arithmetic section of the book I’m using and I’m stuck at ratios. I taught myself fractions which I was pretty proud of, but at the rate I’m going now, I’m not going to make it to the geometry section of this book (or through the test.)

Steve, who has a degree in complex mathematics, can’t explain to me how to interpret ratios or proportions. It’s both amusing and frustrating. Cassie is really my only hope. However, she has classes of her own starting and some pressure to do better then she did last year (to be fair, she took biology and anthropology in one semester which probably really killed her…but I think she’s probably trying for at least a 3.0) It’s just scary, because I know from experience that one bad grade can make it really hard to get your GPA up…but again, it’s a motivating factor…I hope..

Anyway…Steve & I are going to Purgatory Chasm this weekend to do some hiking/climbing and hopefully Saturday will be a girly night w/ AM, Cheera & Goots which will be nice…more later
