So my Modern Poetry professor told us about something that some ignorant woman said, and it went something like this (our current focus is Harlem Renaissance poetry, hence the topic): "Blues music was invented for slaves in the 1920s to calm them down."
UH...yeah. Ignorant much?
And while we're on the topic of ridiculous things I've heard, in one of the fifth grade classes I help out in, they were given the topic to write about changing one thing in their school. One of the kids said they'd want to change the cell phone policy to allow them to bring their cell phones to school and another boy pipes in so they can text and get answers on tests (which I know was sarcasm), but I was all "Uh, no. We can't even do that in college." And another kid wanted to be able to bring her laptop to "better her typing skills." I was just shaking my head at all of them.
